Jo Buchanan-Smith,of the court booking app, explains more.Almost 100 excited youngstersaged 12-17 years attendedthe first-ever Playtomic JuniorAcademy at Rocks Lane, Chiswick,signalling the start of this globalinitiative right here in the UK.The hugely successful event was heldwith the support of Rocks Lane’s ChrisWarren, Rafa Vega and their team ofcoaches, with many of the youngstersplaying padel for the first time.The aim of the Playtomic JuniorAcademy is two-fold:FirstlyWe want to work with our partnerclubs to encourage children of allages and stages of development totry padel and discover what a funsport it is. A lot of these juniors willprogress into coaching squads tocontinue developing their skills and,of course, having fun.SecondlyWe want to identify juniors with thepersonal and sporting potential todevelop into more advanced playerswithin the UK and possibly Europe.By identifying these juniors early,Playtomic hopes to work alongsidethem and their clubs to provide astructured pathway for their longtermdevelopment.We are proud that the UK wasselected as the starting point forthis global programme, which isrolling out across Europe and willcontinue to develop here in the UK.Although we know that the sporthere is a few years away fromcatching up with the continent, wewere delighted with the results ofthe day. We had nearly 100 happy,smiling juniors, Rocks Lane has ablossoming set of junior squadsand there is a real pathway forthese young players to developand progress to the next level in astructured and fun environment.The ultimate aim for the PlaytomicJunior Academy? We are workingwith some of the best coaches inEurope for long-term results andhope to select a few UK juniorsto progress to our dedicatedSpanish Academy to attendcamps alongside juniors fromaround Europe and train with thebest coaches to continue theirdevelopment. Who knows how farthey can progress?There are no guarantees in anysport but having clubs such as RocksLane, which understands long-termplayer development, committedand happy juniors alongside qualitycoaches and facilities is a greatstart. May be one day some of theseplayers will grace the World PadelTour. That would be amazing buthaving so many juniors introducedto padel and now playing regularlywith coaches, their parents andfriends is a great start.It truly was a fun, inclusive andcommunity spirited day. As oneparent put it afterwards: “My sonbounced through the door havinghad the most wonderful session withyour team at Rocks Lane and has,in hand, his Playtomic t-shirt, medal,notebook and pen!
