Or you may belucky (as I was) and have a padel clubwith a shelf of (well-used) rackets toborrow from to see what you like, orplay at one of the growing number ofpadel facilities partnering with brandsto provide loan rackets.After discussing this issue with ourfriends at Wilson they popped aselection of rackets in the post forTeam Bandeja to try out/give-away.Given that we figured you’d prefer towin new, packet-fresh rackets,we held ourselves backfrom ripping thepackaging off eachGB Seniors Women’s player SarahThomas puts the Wilson Ultra Elitethough its paces.and every one, limiting our test effortsto the Wilson Ultra Elite V2, the WilsonUltra LT V2 and the Wilson Ultra Pro.I hit jackpot with my first racket, theUltra Elite. It has a dimpled surfaceand I was keen to see if this improvedmy ability to put spin on the ball (I’dbeen playing with a smooth surfaceracket). In short, yes. I actually fell inlove just a little bit with this one; it feltright in terms of weight and balanceandgave areally solidhit. I’d been playing with a superlightweight racket (330g) so thiswas a big jump at 365g but hasn’tproved in any way troublesome andmy old racket is now gathering dust.My racket and I travelled to Surgein Harrogate to meet up with theGB Seniors Women’s team at oneof its selection events and theresquad member Sarah Thomas hada quick play. And she too loved it,so much so that she now has herown Ultra Elite.“It has really good feel and controlon the ball and enables moreprecision shots,” she told us from ateam training camp in Sotogrande,Spain. “It has a lovely balancedfeeling and the extensive purchaseon the racket face helps with ballcontrol. ThePro did suffer at the hands of theElite though - both Sarah and I soenjoyed playing with the Elite thatthe Pro struggled to get a look in!However, a friend of Sarah’s pickedup the Pro and fell under its spell.And so to the Wilson Ultra LT. This isa gorgeous looking racket weighingin at 350g. I’ve really enjoyed playingwith it, for all the same reasonsas the Ultra Elite. Both are nowpermanent features of my kit bag.52 thebandeja.com
