I am very pleased to
present a new concept
for your Association
News Network publication
with this special
edition including news
and information for all
three of our affiliated
Claims Association organizations: the East Bay,
Mid-Valley & Sacramento Claims Associations.
It’s been more than 30 years since the debut
launch of the first-ever edition of the Association
News Network. January 1993 is when this publication
endeavor began, initially with the East
Bay Adjusters Association. It was a shift for the
EBAA at the time when their incoming board of
directors presented to me the idea of having my
company take-over the regular production of
their newsletter publication.
The concept was a program by which many of
the duties, and all of the costs, of publishing
association news, announcements and information
was taken off the shoulders of the volunteer
board leadership. Instead, a monthly publication
would be provided free of charge to the organization,
run as an independent publication supported
solely by industry advertising.
We came to agreement on the concept in late
1992, and published the first issue to start the
new year.

Beautiful Day for Baseball at the EBCA Day @ The A’s
Oakland Athletics make a game of it in 5-3 loss to Diamondbacks
Oakland, CA – EBCA Members and guests
came together once again at the Oakland
Coliseum for another EBCA Day @ The
A's event Wednesday, May 17, 2023. An
inter-league affair against the snakes of
Arizona, The Arizona Diamondbacks, the
A's entered the game coming off an extra
innings victory from the night before. That
win was just their tenth in an already lowly
season performance. Yet, they made a really
good game of it in their 5-3 loss on this day.
The highlight for Oakland fans was the
seventh inning three-run homer by Ramon
Laureano, that tied the game at the time.
Arizona went on to score two in the top of the
ninth with the A's going quietly in the bottom
half of the frame to close it out.
The EBCA festivities began at 11:00 a.m.
with a bar-be-cue lunch being served to all
attendees. More than 70 tickets were sold for
this event, with each participant receiving
a couple of drink tickets as well. Beautiful
weather for a ballgame provided a great
backdrop for a fun and festive time for all.

2023 MVCA Golf Back to the Future with Return to The Reserve at Spanos
Stockton, CA – The Mid-Valley Claims Association celebrated
its annual Golf Tournament classic with what turned out
to be a beautiful day on the links at The Reserve at Spanos
Park. A chill was in the air in the late June early morning start,
but the overcast burned off and something close to Summer
weather rang in the Summer Solstice. Held Thursday, June
22, 2023, the anticipated return to the Reserve course turned
out to be a fun and successful event.
The annual golf tournament is the primary funding mechanism
for the MVCA Holiday Charitable donations efforts.
While the turnout for this event was slightly less than hoped,
with fewer golfers than last year’s event at Swenson Park,
the result was still strong enough to justify the upgrade move
Dinner, awards and prizes followed in the comfort of the Reserve’s
adjoining banquet hall. A tasty buffet meal was served
to the vast majority of those in attendance on the day. Golf
Committee Co-Chairs Eric Gacutan and Liza Wizecarver ran
the raffle drawings and President Bryan Harrison welcomed
the crowd, thanking sponsors and everyone who supported
the event. Coming in with a net 61 on the day was the winning
team of Rob Bycott, Jeff Jones, George McCluskey and
Greg Wright. They each won a round of golf at The Reserve.
The next gathering of the Mid-Valley Claims Association is
slated for Thursday, July 20 back at Dave Wong’s Restaurant
on West March Lane in Stockton. This will be our annual
recertification for all claims people of
the Fair Claims Settlement Practices
Act regulations. Scheduled speaker to
handle the certification will be attorney

Involvement of the board for content
material was, and remains, a crucial component
necessary for success, but all design,
layout, printing, mailing, ad sales,
database maintenance and publication
rights would be owned and orchestrated
by Association News Network.
Within months of its initial launch, sister
associations within the region began
lining up to have a comparable edition
of their own. Within the first year and
a half, I had a small team helping me
publish five monthly editions serving
the various local groups around Northern
California.
The industry feedback and support was
tremendous, and ANN quickly became
a staple part of all of these professional
organizations.
At the time, each of these organizations
were run quite independently of
one another. While there was a bit
of membership crossover, the days of
service provider marketing reps was in
its infancy.
Leaders of the local groups soon began
coming together to establish a more cohesive
overall approach and, in an effort
to leverage their joint talents connections
and insights for the betterment of the
industry, they formed of the Claims Conference
of Northern California in 1994.
CCNC initially included two voting
representatives from eight or nine regional
claims association organizations,
largely spearheaded by Mr. Gene Riggs,
an Independent adjuster out of the Napa
area. Mr. Riggs, who had been a leader
with the statewide organization, the
California Association of Independent
Insurance Adjusters, put the idea forth
and formed a team consisting of a few
key claims industry players to form the
annual conference.
With the foundation of democratic representation
of the volunteer members,
as appointed by each local organization,
the CCNC Committee was tasked with
producing an annual two-day educational
conference event, initially alternating
the event site from the Bay Area to
Sacramento, and eventually included an
attempt in Modesto one year.
Even as this growth and expansion of
the associations developed, ANN continued
publishing localized editions of
its newsletter products for the various
organizations, while also being invited
to work with the CCNC Committee to
assist in production and promotion of
the annual conference.
By 1996, a new thing called the World
Wide Web set the groundwork for an
added tool to assist these groups, both
in their individual efforts as well as
jointly. I had the good fortune at the
time to be invited into a forming internet
development company, and soon was
learning about web site development
and promotion. ANN then launched web
sites for each of these affiliated groups,
under the same production agreement
providing these services free of charge
to each organization, sponsored in total
by the industry advertising.
For the past 30 years the industry has
seen untold changes, but the core ANN
affiliate organizations have managed to
roll with those changes. The pendulum
of carrier support has swung back and
forth throughout, even as consolidation
and technological innovation have left
their mark.
While each of our remaining affiliate
organizations continues to operate
independently, with programs ranging
from education to social in nature, there
has developed over time a nucleus of
folks engaged in the operation and, to
an extent, even the membership of these
groups.
Hence, I thought it time to provide an
all-inclusive edition of the Association
News Network publication.

SCA Cinema On The Green

Lincoln, CA – The SCA returned to Turkey Creek Golf Course for
their annual charitable fund raising golf tournament here May 12,
2023. The theme of the day, "Cinema On The Green", could not
have been more appropo given the unscripted drama that unfolded
in the early hours of play.
A CHP helicopter, first spotted circling the skies above the course
two or three holes in from the 9:30 a.m. shotgun start, mainly
hovered above the back nine in what seemed an endless search for
something or someone. Play continued, but everyone was plainly
aware something must be amiss. A zoomed-in camera shot showed
the CHP logo clearly identifying the whirlybird as law enforcement,
if there was any question. However, no official word was given for
well more than an hour, maybe two.
Meanwhile, sponsors at the various tee boxes featured their take
on favorite films, many decked out in movie costumes and/or with
elaborate booth displays illustrating movie themes in fun ways.
All while the chopper continued circling above.
Then, seemingly all at once, messengers on golf carts began hurriedly
coming through advising all players and sponsors to head
back to the club house, as we were all being called in as a safety
measure. It was then that the word spread that there was, in fact,
a fugitive at large in the area.
Everyone then gathered, somewhat in puzzlement, just outside
the main clubhouse, waiting for some word. SCA President, Rob
Donahue, spoke on the public address system, suggesting folks
get something to eat and visit while we wait. A course official
came on the PA some time later to announce that everyone must
continue waiting as the hunt continued. A nearby school, he said,
was in lockdown mode as law enforcement officials searched for
a fugitive.
Some folks left, but most stuck it out. For more than an hour and a
half, folks loitered about, visiting with one another and making the
most of it. In what turned out to be a stroke of good fortune for one
vendor for the day, the folks from Renewal Claim Solutions happened
to have their booth station set up adjacent to the clubhouse.
They offered tacos and drinks from their Mario World-themed
booth, and helped everyone relax and enjoy as we waited it out.
The all-clear announcement came in the early afternoon, and play
ultimately resumed, picking up where everyone left off.
"This is the weirdest tournament ever," numerous folks were heard
to say, and then echo. Even as play resumed, the chopper remained
in the sky for another hour or so, only with a broader circling
pattern. No news has yet been uncovered on what was going on
or what fugitive was being pursued, although numerous sources
have been sought out.
Fortunately, and somewhat ironically, the SCA Golf Committee
had taken distinct measures to shorten the length of this often
marathon of a tournament this year. Fewer golfers were permitted,
which served to shorten wait times and reduce backups in play. The
normal full dinner banquet was abbreviated to an appetizer buffet,
and vendors were encouraged to help keep the play moving along.
So, despite the two hour delay in the middle of the tournament, it

as the past couple of years -
maybe slightly earlier even.

Langford, from Servpro of Fair
Oaks/ Folsom & Elk Grove/
Laguna. Not only did Dan's
foursome take first place in
the tourney, Dan himself won
the morning's putting contest.
The SCA donated $2,500 to
the Firefighters Burn Institute,
as well as all proceeds from
the putting contest. Additional
tournament net proceeds will
be used at the December Cathrin
Nevin Memorial Holiday
luncheon to present donations
to other local charitable organizations.
