will simply say, he is the best! My wife and I have bought and sold multiple
homes before, but we have never worked with a realtor that cares for his
clients as his own family or knows more about the process or the market
as much as Salah. He was there 24-7. He always delivered on his promises.
LUSD Officially Opens 9th School with Evelyn Costa Ribbon-cutting
By Bryan Harrison
College Park Village, Mountain House, CA – The eighth K-8 school
in the Lammersville Unified School District and ninth district
school opened with an official ribbon-cutting presentation and
tour Wednesday, July 19, 2023. Evelyn Costa Elementary, located
in heart of College Park Village, showed as an impressive feat
of a construction project, with it's two-story structures, beautifully
landscaped quad, and impressive detail in the classrooms.
The award winning school district leadership held a mid-afternoon
welcoming ceremony outside the gates of the school to
welcome the community to their latest achievement. Hosted
by LUSD Superintendent, Dr. Kirk Nicholas, all five board
of trustees members were in attendance, as well as numerous
other dignitaries.
With a large shade canopy for many, Dr. Nicholas greeted the
VIPs and the numerous community neighbors in attendance.
Folks sought out shady areas as the afternoon temperature
pushed the high 90s. A light breeze kept it from feeling too hot
for most. "It was 107 out here a few days ago, so
we're grateful to have this beautiful day," he said.
LUSD Board of Trustees President, David Pombo,
spoke briefly, focusing his comments largely on the
legacy of the school's namesake, Evelyn Costa. He
did comment, initially, making light of the sunshiny
day. "We were told there would be a shade tent for
the VIPs, so we see where we rank," as the board
sat behind Nicholas in the sun.
Ms. Costa, he said, grew up just blocks away, at the
corner of what is now Mountain House Parkway
and Grant Line Rd., when this was all farmland.
She was a student at Mountain House School, and
ultimately followed in her father's footsteps, becoming
a San Joaquin County Supervisor, and the
first-ever woman president of that board.
On-hand was Ms. Costa's daughter, Corinne, who
Dr. Nicholas introduced to the crowd, and then
called upon to share a few words. She spoke of
how pleased her mother would have been at the
development of this school, and how proud she
would have been to be the namesake.
A parade of dignitaries followed, including: Rhodesia
Ransom on behalf of Congress-member Josh
Harder; developer Gerry Kamilos, of Mountain
House Investors LLC; San Joaquin County Board
of Education Chair, Dr. Troy Brown; and Ms. Karen
Rickman on behalf of her husband, San Joaquin
County Board of Supervisors President, Robert
Rickman, who had a scheduling conflict. Each
Noel Balzarini & Dr. Kirk Nicholas
Developer Gerry Kamilos expressed his delight with the school
Rhodesia Ransom, on behalf of Congress member Josh Harder, presented a certificate
o of Congressional Appreciation to LUSD Board President David Pombo
A large crowd turned out for the Evelyn Costa School ribbon-cutting ceremony event July 19, 2023
Dignitaries included Evelyn Costa’s family members, second row
(L-R): MHCSD Board members Matt Disko, Harry Dhillon, Pres Bernice Tingle; LUSD Board Trustees Colin Clements, Lisa Boulais, Vanitha
Daniel, Clerk Stephanie Olsen, Pres David Pombo, and MHCSD Director Manuel Moreno (MHCSD VP Andy Su was unable to attend)
San Joaquin County Board of Education President, Dr. Troy Brown, above left, presented the LUSD with a
congratulatory certificate to LUSD Board President David Pombo.
LUSD Superintendent Dr. Kirk Nicholas welcomed the crowd
Evelyn Costa’s daughter, Corrine, spoke with adulation about her
Biggest Threats to a
Comfortable Retirement?
Submitted by Tom Kelly, Edward Jones
If you save and invest for decades, you’d like to know you can
retire without financial worries.
Nonetheless, you still have to be aware
of some threats to a comfortable retirement
— and how to respond to them.
These threats include:
• Inflation – Inflation has been high recently, but
even a mild inflation rate can seriously erode your
purchasing power. In fact, with just a 3% inflation
rate, your expenses could double in about 25
years — and your retirement could easily last that
long. So, if you’re going to rely on your investment
portfolio for a sizable part of your retirement income,
you will need to own a reasonable number
of growth-oriented investments, such as stocks or
stock-based funds, whose potential returns can
equal or exceed the inflation rate.
• Excessive withdrawals – Once you retire, you
should establish a withdrawal rate for your portfolio
— an amount you can take out each year and
still feel secure that you won’t run out of money.
Some people make the mistake of withdrawing
too much, too soon, once they’re retired. Your
withdrawal rate should be based on several
factors, including your age at retirement, the
size of your portfolio and the amount of income
you receive from other sources, such as Social
Security. A financial professional can help you
determine a withdrawal rate that’s appropriate
for your needs.
• Market volatility – The financial markets will
always fluctuate. When you’re still working, this
volatility may not be such a problem, as you have
years or decades to recover from short-term
downturns. But when you retire, you don’t want
to have to sell investments when their price is
down. To help prevent this, you can tap into the
cash in your portfolio, assuming you have enough
to cover several months’ worth of living expenses.
You could also draw on a CD “ladder” — a group of
CDs that mature at different times — to provide
you with resources for the next few years and
allow your equity investments time to recover
their value.
• Unexpected costs – You had them when you
were working, and you’ll probably have them
when you’re retired: the furnace that breaks
down, the car that needs a major repair, and so
on. But if you’ve established an emergency fund
containing a year’s worth of living expenses, with
the money kept in a liquid account, you may be
able to “ride out” these costs without jeopardizing
your investment portfolio. Be sure to keep these
reserves separate from your typical day-to-day
accounts to avoid the temptation of spending
your emergency money.
• Health – Retirees may face more health concerns
than younger people, and those concerns
often come with larger medical bills. That’s why
it’s important to maximize the benefits from
Medicare or your Medicare Advantage plan. Also,
if you contributed to a Health Savings Account
(HSA) while you were working, and you haven’t
depleted it, you can use the money in retirement.
As long as the HSA funds are used for qualified
medical expenses, withdrawals are tax- and penalty-free,
and won’t be included in your income.
This could help keep your income below certain
levels, lower your Medicare premiums or avoid
the 3.8% surtax on net investment income that
can be assessed on high-net-worth taxpayers.
Retirement can be a pleasant time in your life —
and you’ll enjoy it more if you’re prepared for the
challenges that face all retirees.
Tracy, CA - Business professionals in our community are being
encouraged to step up and come together to make a heartfelt impact
in the life of Rhylee Rae, a brave young local girl diagnosed with
Stage IV Neuroblastoma.
Since her diagnosis in September 2018, Rhylee has endured
multiple rounds of chemotherapy, surgeries, radiation, and has
participated in multiple medical trials. Despite the challenges,
Rhylee's vibrant personality shines through, inspiring everyone
she meets.
In support of Rhylee's ongoing medical journey, a new fund-raising
effort has been launched, the “Look Good Do Good” campaign.
Created by local photographer, Erica Dias as a way folks can help,
Look Good Do Good involves headshot photography for local
professionals and business people as a way to help this family
through this very difficult ordeal, while providing the personal benefit of business portrait updates for
professionals in Tracy, Mountain House and the surrounding areas. Ms. Dias is running this offer through
or unprofessional business portrait can potentially hinder opportunities for professionals, Ms. Dias stated.
“It's essential to update your portrait regularly. Through 'Look Good Do Good' we are offering an
affordable way to update portraits while making a significant impact on Rhylee's life,” she explained.
Business professionals who schedule a session with Erica Dias Photography for $250 will receive two
branding portraits that can be used on their website, business card, and social media. Most importantly,
$100 from each session will be donated directly to Rhylee Rae to support her medical treatments and
ongoing care.
Ms. Dias is providing this service as a discounted rate, reduced from her usual price, for professional
photos through this fund-raiser, with a significant portion going directly to help
Rhylee and her family. Those interested may schedule a personal professional photography
session by contacting Erica Dias Photography at (209) 601-4521, or visit www.ericadiasphotography.com/look-good-do-good
Youth Action Committee
Summer Camp benefits
from contributions of
local non-profit leader
Kennedy-Bracken
MH Matters reported last month on a portion of the
Youth Action Committee Summer Camp activities.
The focus of the article was largely on young entrepreneurs
and making a difference in their community.
While this feature included detail on author
Kimberly Austin, and local physical educator Ryan
DeRoche, among others, we neglected to mention
that this particular program was brought to the YAC
group courtesy of Ms. Mary
Kennedy-Bracken, and her
non-profit organization,
Turn Your Passion into
Profit, Inc. We regret the
oversight.
Turn Your Passion into
Profit, Inc. has formed a
non-profit organization that
aims to assist entrepreneurs
Mary Kennedy-Bracken
and young people in establishing their own businesses.
TYPP recognizes that educated and productive
youth may help break the cycle of intergenerational
challenges and are more resilient in the face of personal
and societal hardships.
“To ensure the fulfillment of this right, it is necessary
that these young people acquire the entrepreneurial
knowledge and skills necessary to lead productive
and meaningful lives,” Ms. Kennedy-Bracken stated.
“Based on this realization, Turn Your Passion
into Profit, Inc. is motivated by a simple objective:
to make the community a better environment for
devoted and enthusiastic young entrepreneurs by
integrating them to be more productive and influential
in the community. We utilize volunteer teams to
bridge the gap between entrepreneurs in need and
available resources,” she explained.
Both of the aforementioned presenters represented
prime examples of entrepreneurs turning their passions
into businesses, which Ms. Kennedy-Bracken
brought to the YAC.
“We endeavor to cultivate fruitful relationships and
create a good effect in all of our endeavors,” she added.
Turn Your Passion into Profit, Inc. is committed to
developing long-lasting partnerships and strategizing
growth solutions. “We continue to enhance network
and communication performance with long-lasting,
distinctive, and substantial solutions. Together, we
believe in performing at the highest level, delivering
maximum leverage, and creating a brighter future,”
she said in conclusion.
The speakers and activities TYPP and Ms. Kennedy-Bracken
brought to the Youth Action Committee
Summer Camp June 21, 2023 was
a shining example of the kind of
work this local non-profit brings to
the community.
2023 MH Independence Day Parade and Festival a Community Celebration
By Bryan Harrison
Mountain House, CA – On what turned out to be a
Where groups in the past would mostly simply
walk the parade together, many groups went the
extra mile this year to put a float together of one
sort or another.
Sikhs of Mountain House lived up to their standard
of a quality decked-out float led by numerous
members of their organization, and great enthusiasm.
From Sports groups to social organizations,
commercial enterprises to service groups, and local
government, school district, law enforcement and
the fire department, the train of the parade seemed
longer than experienced previously.
Likewise, the turnout of residents along both sides
of Central Parkway, cheering on the paraders, seems
to have grown, as well, and/or was as engaged as
at any parade in the past has seen.
Local Realtors and longtime residents, Drew &
Colleen Jacobsen, remade their traditional "home
for sale" float, this time with all recyclable material,
and invested money they saved into a child-sized
drivable Tesla, "The official car of Mountain
House," Drew stated in a dry humor nod to a
seeming reality here.
Suzuki Strings showed they are alive and happening,
playing as they marched the mile or so route.
The local Zumba group came out in force, dancing
their way down Central Parkway from Main Street
to Heritage and back to Central Community Park.
The Rotary Club of Mountain House came with a
flatbed trailer pulled by a tractor, led by a pair of
motorcycles and their banner carried by leaders
of the MH High Interact Club - the local Rotary
affiliate. Their float included Rhodesia Ransom -
Congressional Representative for Josh Harder - and
Tracy Mayor Nancy Young, who both rode on the
hay-baled float with local Rotary members.
A brand new group in the parade was the freshly
formed Mountain House United. Said to be formed
to allow residents from town to meet up socially
without condition of race, creed or social status.
Their float included local DJ and member of
“I was researching Realtors in Mountain House back in April when I
decided to sell my investment properties. I had already heard about him through word of
mouth as his reputation preceded him. It didn’t take long to realize Mike was by far the most
experienced.
l asked around and read some of his reviews and, I have to say, he really lives up to the hype.
From the moment we made contact, man, he was ON IT! Now, the home wasn’t sell-ready
at the time. It needed cleaning, paint, carpet & landscape. Plus, the tenant had damaged
the home quite a bit. Within days of having signed the listing agreement, the painter was
already in there masking it off. Within a few short weeks, the house was absolutely turn-key
and ready to go.
His stager, Janine, came in and made it look like a model home and his photography crew
took beautiful photos & prepared a lovely virtual tour.
Because it took a while to get the home vacated, the market had already turned but Mike
knew how to price it, how to market it and how to sell it!
Even after dealing with flaky buyers and some dishonest buyers’ agents, it didn’t taint his
spirit. He remained as enthusiastic as day 1.
I’ve bought and sold numerous properties over the years and Mike was by the far the best
l’ve worked with. If you’re in the market to sell or buy a home in Mountain House, do yourself
a favor and call Mike. He and his team will handle EVERYTHING! All I had do was hand him
the key & collect my money at closing! Thank you again Mike to you and your team. ”
His professionalism and expertise of the housing market weren’t the only things that won us
His team of stagers and photographers did an amazing job marketing our house.
After one weekend of Open House, we received multiple above listing offers and
Benefits of promoting “Coming Soon” on your listing
By Mike Samawi
Issue #113 • August 2023
“Coming Soon…”
It’s a headline most anyone who’s shopped for
real estate has come across. Some have seen
them on Zillow, others have seen them on top
of a real estate for sale sign, and by now almost
everyone has seen these adds on social media.
But why? Some think they are just used so Realtors
have something to post about. In some
cases, that might be true; but do they benefit
the seller? Yeah… sometimes they do!
This past May, I had an upcoming listing with
a “coming soon” sign rider on my for sale sign.
There was an exact model match to my listing
that just hit the market around the corner, so I
knew that any buyer that was going to see it,
would likely pass by ours on the way there. A
week goes by, that listing gets multiple offers
and is now “Pending”. Let’s say that house got
5 offers. That means there are now 4 prospective
buyers who just lost out on the house they
wanted. What do you think their next move
was?
Ring Ring… guess who?
Wouldn’t you know it! Someone who had seen
the “coming soon” sign rider on top of my for
sale sign was calling.
They had already felt the sting of being outbid
once before and that wound was still pretty
fresh.
They had their agent call and ask when we’re
hitting the market. I then consulted my seller
and asked them if they’d consider selling it
before it hits the market. I suggested to them
that I’d find out what the property around the
corner went pending for, so they could then
decide what number would keep them from
going to the market.
I explain to my prospective seller that there is
some risk by selling off market because we don’t
know where other bids might actually end up
until we see list the property. So we could be
selling ourselves short.
By this time, we learned not only what the house
around the corner went pending for, we also
discovered the seller had paid their solar off
before selling it.
Being a model match to this, it’s probably fair
to say that we will likely end up within 10k of
that number. So the risk of selling ourselves
short is minimal. The sellers and I agreed that
20k more for theirs and the buyer to assume
their solar balance would keep this from hitting
the market.
Again, the wound of getting outbid on the
other home the prospective buyer fell in love
with was still pretty fresh. Before you think I’m
a predatory jerk for taking advantage of that, let
me remind you that my job is to get MY seller
the most money possible. It’s the buyers agents
job to care about the buyer, not mine.
I called the buyer’s agent and let him know what
it’s going to take for their buyer to not experience
that pain again. I also called the buyer’s
lender and looked over their proof of funds to
make sure they were solid and also made sure to
have them remove their appraisal contingency
since we would be getting into contract for 20k
more than the highest comp. The buyers agreed
and within a day we were in contract for 34k
more than the one around the corner. (20k plus
the 14k solar balance)
So, does advertising a “coming soon” benefit the
seller? Not always, but in this case a resounding
YES! This is just one example.
There have been many other instances where
a seller of mine (I’m sure this has happened
other Realtors as well) has gotten to write their
own sale price as a result of this. It ultimately
depends on the market we’re in, the quality of
the advertising, the location of the home, the
sellers expectations, and the experience & negotiating
skill of the Realtor! I emphasize that last
one because if you overshoot, you could scare
the buyer away. Undershoot and you could be
leaving money on the table! Like in all things
real estate related.
Make sure you hire an experienced, LOCAL real
estate professional with a proven track record!
As The New School Year Approaches,
Housing Inventory Is Still Low…
By Salah Salah
Hello Mountain House Family. I hope everyone
has had a fantastic summer break. I am excited to
bring you June/July’s market update.
We are seeing a moderate change since our last
update. We are still very well in a “seller’s market”
Compared to the previous month, we are noticing
more homes hitting the market, but with the lack of
inventory, they are pending very fast in most cases.
We are witnessing some homes coming on the
market with unrealistic expectations. This market
can be very confusing for many buyers and agents.
I would like to address that not all homes are flying
off the market well over the asking price. Homes
still need to show well, and they need to be presented
to the market in a tasteful fashion and priced
realistically to get the attention of serious buyers.
Another thing we noticed is an uptick in homes
coming on the market in the last 3 weeks (towards
the end of the summer), which we usually see at
the beginning of the summer. We currently have 8
homes for sale in Mountain House compared to 13
during the last market update. We have 0.57 months
of standing inventory compared to 0.83 last month.
Non-contingent offers are still the new norm, but
we are witnessing some offers coming in with
some sort of contingency. The 3 villages
in high demand are Hansen, Cordes, and
College Park. The new Evelyn Costa K-8
School will be opening this school year.
That should help property values in College
Park. If you have any questions about this
article or our Real Estate market, feel free
to contact me anytime. Remember choosing
a Realtor with vast experience listing &
selling homes in your local market will put
you in the best possible position to navigate
these ever-changing Market conditions.
Why Does Inventory Continue To Stay Low?
We are experiencing a rippling effect
from the historic low-interest rates during
the past few years. Homeowners who
purchased or refinanced during that time
are less motivated to sell their current or
primary home because of the low-interest
rates they have. Many of the homes we
see hit the market are secondary homes
(rentals) or “life events” that are occurring
i.e., an unfortunate death, separation/ divorce, or
work relocation. The interesting part is that when
you run the numbers, selling, and buying currently
do make sense in many situations. Even though
the interest rates are higher than the historic lows.
Home Values
Our Mountain House home values are continuing
to rise. The best and most accurate way to get
your current home value is to talk with a local
agent. Most homeowners are in utter shock at their
current home values! In our ever-evolving digital
age, most homeowners utilize websites that have
algorithms in place to obtain their current home
value. Those sites cannot even remotely keep up
with this current market and are highly inaccurate
in most to all cases. Reaching out to a local and
experienced Realtor is going to be the best approach
for an accurate home value.
What Is a Buyer’s Market?
A buyer’s market refers to a situation in which
changes to the underlying economic conditions that
shape “supply and demand.” It means that purchasers
have an advantage over sellers in price negotiations.
A buyers market occurs when there is six (6) or more
months of Inventory supply available.
What is a Neutral Market?
A Neutral market is when we have three
to six (3-6) months of inventory supply.
What Is a Seller’s Market?
A seller’s market is a market condition characterized
by a shortage of goods available for sale,
resulting in pricing power for the seller. A Seller’s
Market is a term commonly applied to the property
market when low supply meets high demand. A
sellers market equals less than three (3) months of
inventory supply.
What Does Months Of Inventory Mean?
Months of inventory takes into account the number
of homes for sale on the market with recently
sold homes and reflects the number of months
it would take to sell all homes currently on the
market. You can calculate months of inventory by
dividing the total number of homes for sale over
the number of homes sold in one month. When
months of inventory are low, it’s a fast-paced
market dominated by buyers and few sellers.
When months of inventory are high, there are
generally more homes on the market (dominated
by sellers) with fewer buyers or sales.
Acton Children’s Business Fair highlights talents & drive of young entrepreneurs
Budding entrepreneurs came together Saturday, July 22, 2023
for the Acton Children’s Business Fair. Held in the cafeteria hall at
Mountain House High School from 10am-1pm, the mid-day event
featured 37 aspiring businesses, all young people, featuring a wide
array of goods to sell from cookies and candy to artwork, gadgets
and even scientific developments. Vendors ranged in age from as
young as five years old to 16. Participant rules included no direct
product development assistance from parental units, although
serving as “investors” was permitted.
The kids came up with some amazing products. Moreover, the
salesperson in many of them was on full display. Convincing
pitches had shoppers eager to purchase what was being sold.
From the chocolate fondue near the entrance, and vegan and
gluten-free cookies, to the pretty incredible paintings being
sold by 8 year old (ok, almost 9, he said), Ayaan Arora, with his
Palette Habit canvasses looking professionally displayed, and
the homeopathic dandruff remedy created by 16 year old Gauri
Khandelwal, the range of shopping options were wide-spread
and most impressive.
Moreover, these 21st century entrepreneurs were QR-code
ready to accept payments via Venmo, PayPal or Zelle in many
cases. Smart.
The brainchild of residents Paulam Chang
and Pebble, with help from numerous others,
the success of this first Acton Children’s
Business Fair event all but guarantees it will
happen again.
“We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering
support and generosity of our sponsors
and the entire community at the Mountain
House Acton Children's Business Fair,” Pebble
stated on her social media afterward.
“With your help, these children have learned
invaluable lessons in creativity, entrepreneurship,
and responsibility. Your contributions
their ideas and dreams to the world.”
Evelyn Costa School Ribbon-cutting
continued from page 4
conveyed congratulations to the community and
the school district. Mr. Kamilo's, who was instrumental
in assisting with the financial aspects of the
development spoke with pride about the growth and
uniqueness of the College Park Village, as well as
the affiliation with the Delta College Campus. He
was most instrumental in bringing the college to
town in the early days, in fact.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Nicholas acknowledged
the dignitaries on-hand, including most of the Community
Services District Board of Directors, and
General Manager Steve Pinkerton. He stated that
this was the first school project where the LUSD
and the CSD worked together to work out financing
and such, too. With three more schools yet to
come - all in the villages north of Byron Rd. - that
partnership bodes well for the future.
From there, everyone present moved toward the
gates to the school with the red ribbon poised for
cutting. The LUSD Board and Dr. Nicholas lined
up behind it and Board Clerk Stephanie Olsen did
the honors of cutting the ribbon.
Self-guided tours on the downstairs of the main
campus building open for business ensued. The
school will open as scheduled, in time for the first
15
day of school August 3, with some 500 students
enrolled at the start.
Much as Hansen School opened five years ago, the
mirror-image structure will open later in the year.
The construction team at Roebler Construction,
who has done an amazing job with this project,
is set to meet their stated deadline of October for
the second building. Assistant Project Manager,
Sabrina Brakkee, and Project Engineer, Irene
Perales, were clearly pleased with meeting the
opening deadline. Both hailing originally from
Tracy, they spoke about the incredible growth and
development of Mountain House with pride and
satisfaction being part of the process, expressing
how their team came together to get this project
done in short order.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony in May
of last year, actual movement of dirt began just
last June. "A project like this usually takes at least
18 months," stated Ms. Brakkee. The duo have
worked diligently to help coordinate the innumerous
aspects required to make this come to fruition.
Some 140,000 man-hours of work have reportedly
been logged since the start. A most impressive new
school is the result.
July 4th a Community Celebration
continued from page 10
the MHCSD Board of Directors, Matt Disko, who kept the music and the group enthusiasm pumped
throughout.
The return path fed paraders directly into the long field side of Central Community Park. Food vendors
were lined up along a closed-off Main Street, with various vendor booths lined up inside the park. Bounce
houses and water slide features were set up near the community fountain area, and the stage on the far
side of the field.
Scouting Troop 511 served as Color Guard, leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a six year old
boy who sang the National Anthem to an instrumental recording.
New Mountain House Recreation Manager and event producer, Laura Johnston, welcomed the crowd
and introduced a dance production feature by local dance studio owner, Hazel Maglasang, of En Pointe
Dance Studio. Hazel introduced several of her groups of young dancers. She also thanked everyone for
their attention, attendance and support.
Following the En Pointe performances, after a brief intermission to set up the stage, local rock band
Mudbug Mojo played a two hour set American and American-influenced Rock n roll to keep the party
going and fill out a big fun day.

Soccer Coach's Vision Transforms
Youth Recreational Program
by : Santosh Sinha, Mountain House, CA
Mountain House, [July, 20, 2023] - In a heartening
display of passion and dedication, Coach Tony
Valenzuela, a revered figure in the local soccer community,
is revolutionizing youth soccer coaching
with a visionary approach. Leading the West Coast
Soccer recreational league, Coach Tony has set his
sights beyond just molding skilled soccer players;
his mission is to create well-rounded individuals
equipped with leadership qualities and a strong
sense of teamwork.
Coach Tony's
coaching philosophy
centers
around
incorporating
key ideas
into team
training, emphasizing
the
value of communication and camaraderie among
players. “I want my teams to not only succeed on
the field but also to become successful in life,” he
stated, exuding enthusiasm.
In an effort to promote a positive and respectful
environment, Coach Tony fosters an inclusive
atmosphere where gender is of no consequence
on the soccer pitch. “The main reason I do co-ed
is to break down gender barriers and instill a sense
of teamwork beyond stereotypes,” he shared,
highlighting the significance of players supporting
each other on and off the field.
Beyond regular league matches, Coach Tony has
introduced championship games and all-star teams
to provide young talents with ample opportunities
to showcase their skills. “I believe in recognizing
hard work and dedication, not just goals scored.
All deserving players get the chance to shine,” he
explained, beaming with pride.
For Coach Tony, coaching youth soccer transcends
the boundaries of a mere recreational activity. “I
see coaching as a path to shape young lives, to
build strong leaders for tomorrow,” he revealed,
reflecting on his deep-rooted purpose. Through
his Polar Star vision, Coach Tony envisions a
ten-year journey for each player, beginning at the
age of four, which gradually guides them towards
high school soccer, college play, and possibly even
professional careers.
“I don’t just want them to be great soccer players;
I want them to be exceptional human beings,” he
asserted passionately. Through the years, Coach
Tony has touched countless lives, becoming more
than just a coach to his players but also a mentor,
a role model, and a constant source of inspiration.
Coach Tony’s unwavering commitment has garnered
admiration from parents and fellow coaches
alike. “He genuinely cares for each child and their
development. His enthusiasm is infectious,” shared
a parent whose children have had the privilege of
being coached by him.
As the director of West Coast Soccer’s recreational
league, Coach Tony has revolutionized the program,
gaining full support from its owners and
establishing it as a developmental powerhouse.
“I want to create a minor league team that feeds
our competitive teams, nurturing local talent,” he
revealed with determination.
The impact of Coach Tony’s approach reaches far
beyond the soccer field. Through his coaching, he
is forging strong bonds with the children, making
a lasting impact that extends well into their adulthood.
“I want to create memories they cherish
forever, memories that will guide them even after
I’m gone,” he humbly shared.
Coach Tony’s relentless drive to build a community
of respectful, passionate, and skilled individuals
serves as an inspiration for soccer enthusiasts far
and wide. With each season, he is sowing seeds of
hope and ambition, cultivating a legacy that will
endure for generations to come.
Registration for the Fall Recreational Youth Soccer
Program is now open for Girls and Boys - Ages 4 to
18. The program will run mid-August through November
Foundational Youth Soccer Program West Coast
Soccer Club is committed to teaching fundamental
skills, instilling confidence and building a love for
the game of soccer in youth players in our community
while continuing to develop those players to their
highest potential through excellent qualified coaching
and superior training in a positive environment. West
Coast Soccer Club’s motto is “For the LOVE of the
Game!” We take this very much to
heart. We want to encourage kids
to get out and enjoy soccer and
have passion for the game we love
so much.
Int’l Baseball Come to Town
New Taipei City traveling Taiwan 11u team faces off against MH
MountainHouseMatters.com
In Memoriam
Amrik Wander Arvind Ram
May 27, 1988 - July 7, 2023 November 7, 1984 - July 7, 2023
19
International baseball came to Mountain House July 6, 2023, as the
traveling Taiwan 11u little league team played an exhibition game
against some of the Mountain House little leaguers.
The Taiwan team leadership reportedly reached out to the Royal
Kings Basketball leaders, as the two had met up previously for a
similar game of hoops.
Royal Kings leader, Harry Dhillon, was able to work with Mountain
House Little League leaders, including league President Angel
Wrigley, and Head Coach Mike Fernandes to put together an
exhibition game at the Central Community Park field.
The teams lined up along the 1st and 3rd baselines for their respective
national anthems, as performed by the local MH Suzuki
Strings. Greetings and even gifts were exchanged between the
teams, and then the action got underway.
Earlier in the day, the team from Taiwan reportedly received a
tour of town, including a stop at the Mountain House Fire Station.
They all had lunch together and visited the MH High School and
the Library.
“What a wonderful experience this is for all the players, and
coaches,” stated Ms. Wrigley.
Amrik Wander and Arvind Ram will be remembered fondly
The communities of Tracy and Mountain House are
reeling with the sudden passing of two bright lights.
Amrik Wander (35) and Arvind Ram (38) were killed
suddenly on July 7 in a car accident.
Amrik leaves behind two children, a loving wife, and
elderly parents. A GoFundMe campaign has been
established to assist his family members with the
overwhelming challenges they now face.
For more, visit the GoFundMe page for Amrik’s family:
A similar effort is underway for Arvind’s family. Arvind
was a wonderful son, brother, and friend, who touched
the lives of those around him. He leaves behind his dad
Ramaraj Periyasamy, mom Sasikala Ramaraj, and sister
Ramya Karthika Ramaraj.
