• Per and Abbi Akvist, PCG Mission to Ethiopia • Summer 2023 •
Dear Friends,
In January, an evangelistic organization under Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, called Empower21, graciously
offered to fund a new sound system for our campaigns! Now we need to provide the extensive import taxes that will be
due upon arrival. Those overhead costs are estimated at least $30,000 US, barring unforeseen circumstances. We may also
need to update our large ministry vehicle as it may be too small to transport the new sound system. I spent a month in the
US doing various meetings. The Lord gave fantastic revival services filled with His power, and people generously gave, so
we've reached about half of our goal for the sound system overhead
costs. A big thank you to all the wonderful folks in California!
Despite the rain, about 60,000 people came to celebrate
with us. Jesus stretched out his hand and healed
multitudes of people in every meeting. In gratitude, this
woman (photo, top left) thanked God that she could now
see after being blind for many years. This second woman
(photo, top right) was one of many who experienced
God's power and regained her hearing after many years
of being deaf. This third woman (photo, bottom left)
regained her hearing and was overjoyed! People were
healed and no longer needed their walking canes. I usually end
up with quite the collection afterward.
A week later, we had the next campaign, and even though it
was a bit rainy there also, crowds of people came out to hear
the Good News! There was enormous joy on the field when
God's Word was preached. Jesus indeed demonstrated his
power and love for people with wonders and miracles.
In March, we had two extensive campaigns in Ethiopia. Although they
were dry times, we ended up in a period of rain. There has been an
extreme drought for the past four years; crops have dried up, and many
people are suffering due to the drought. Therefore, people prayed and
cried out to God and asked for rain, so the rain came with us. But even
though it rained every day, people came to the field and celebrated
with tremendous and fantastic joy.
Thank you so much to each faithful partner in this ministry. Your continued prayers for this work
and your generous giving is bringing the Gospel to remote locations in Ethiopia. We continue to
see tremendous fruit in this ministry and are humbled to be able to serve the Lord in this manner.
It is truly a passion of love, and we are thankful for your partnership in reaching the lost with the saving Gospel of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
With much love and appreciation,
Per and Abbi Akvist
Family Mercy House • Summer 2023
Dear Friends,
On April 20th, we had a graduation ceremony and a big celebration for all the women and staff at Family Mercy House. I
traveled to Addis Ababa to help finish the school year and encouraged and congratulated the women as they were now
ready to enter the workforce. We invited a municipal representative to attend the graduation ceremony, and she gave a
lovely speech to the women while showing great appreciation
for the work of Family Mercy House.
Everyone received their diplomas; for some, it was the first
time they saw their names in print. They can now go out and
look for employment. The women are deeply grateful and truly
happy to move forward in their lives.
We are overjoyed and honored that two of our hairdressing
students have already found work in salons. Also, one of the
women in the
sewing group
has already
gotten a job, and now we hope that the remainder will get a well-paying job
soon to begin supporting themselves. Beletu (photo, bottom left) was a
sewing student. Yordanos (photo, bottom middle) was a hairdresser
student. Fantaye (photo, bottom right) was a hairdresser student. We wish
them much success in their next steps in life.
Dagimawi Zerihun was one of our older children.
He joined our sponsorship program when he was
in 3rd grade. Dagimawi is now 21 years old and is
in college. He
lives with his
mother, and he is her only son. Dagimawi recently started a new job as a broker, and he
also has a part-time job driving a taxi. Therefore, he now has enough income to cover his
expenses and support his mother! Since he has an education and secure employment, we
will pass their monthly support to another needy family. Dagimawi and his mother are very
thankful, and he said that this program helped him to become a productive citizen. (Photo
right, Dagimawi and his mother).
With much love and profound appreciation,
PATHWAYS
The Way Walker Ministries Newsletter
June 2023
Way Walker Ministries’ second trip to Spain kept us very busy as we walked
along the Camino de Santiago as part of a continuous stream of people representing
a wide range of age groups and a multitude of nations. Overall, we experienced
the following:
The Mission: To deliver the Gospel
Message to seekers on the Camino
de Santiago and develop pathways
for ongoing discipleship.
Blessed are those whose strength is
in you, who have set their hearts
upon Pilgrimage.
Psalm 84:5
--The number of people hiking the Camino so far in 2023 is surpassing last year’s
record numbers by roughly 30%. The official count of pilgrims arriving in Santiago
as of June 1 exceeds 120,000. This is astounding considering it is still early in the
season. Locals are concerned that the present infrastructure along the Camino
will not be able to support so many should the trend continue.
--God orchestrated our steps throughout the journey so that we were able to
make more connections with locals. As a result, we are increasingly understanding
the importance of developing anchor points throughout Spain with the hope
of planting churches in the future.
--Worldwide, Covid has deeply affected people’s mental health and how they
interact with each other. We saw vast numbers who were hungry for relationships,
seeking a greater sense of community. Many were angry and frustrated.
Most were looking for some glimmer of hope during these confusing times.
With an intentional focus upon evangelism and discipleship, we were blessed to
not only speak to many each day, but also to form deeper relationships with
some. God allowed us to plant seeds while He watered and prepared the harvest!
Each day brought new surprises as the Holy Spirit divinely placed us in the
paths of other peoples’ lives. We are even more assured that He is at work in
Spain, and we are very excited (and humbled) to be a part of His plans.
Future Goals:
--We are scheduled to welcome the first Way Walker team in late August as they
join us for the next three-month mission.
--We will continue to partner with the PCG Global Education Department as we
help to train and equip teams of evangelists to hike the Camino. More on this in
coming months!
--We will continue to make connections with local people along the Camino,
which will help us to create anchor points and increase our sphere of influence
across Spain.
7

Present Needs:
Way Walker Ministries is growing quickly, and we are excited to see
such great potential in a field that is ripe for harvest. Yet, as with any
mission, funds must be available to cover the operational costs. Our
current needs are for:
--The cost of airfare to and from Spain.
--Daily room and board expenses as we hike the Camino.
--Budget requirements to continually maintain and upgrade technology
used in communications, evangelism, and discipleship.
--Costs to replace hiking gear, as ours continues to wear out through
regular use.
You can become a vital part of this exciting and innovative mission by:
--Partnering with us in prayer.
--Partnering with us financially.
--Considering joining a team in the future. Please stay tuned for further
developments as the mission continues to grow!
Our sincere thanks to those of you who have supported us. We ask that
you prayerfully consider partnering with us as we continue to deliver
the Gospel Message to seekers on the Camino de Santiago and develop
pathways for ongoing discipleship. Below, you will find instructions for
Greetings in the Matchless, Mighty Name of Jesus!
We want to thank all of you who continue to support our work, planting
churches, and supporting, mentoring and training pastors in Nigeria and now,
newly nationally registered, Liberia!
A special thanks to those who gave to help
us put the system in Bishop Azenabor's home
in Nigeria to purify the water system. We pray
God will bless you back abundantly. We are
gearing up for General Convention and then this fall will be heading back to
Nigeria for our CP2/Creative Pastors & Creative People Annual
Conference. Please pray about helping us fund this great leadership
conference. Out of last years conference, we have 40 pastors we will be
training and planting new churches with. And then we will make our way to
Liberia to prepare for our first event and excited is an understatement! We
opened Liberia with 150 pastors!!! Praise the Lord! Well please prayerfully
consider assisting us and giving to this great work GOD is doing in Nigeria and
Liberia. Remember, you can't beat God giving no matter how you try!
JUNE 2023
JUBILEE YEAR
This is a Jubilee Year for Guatemala PCG as we celebrate
our 50th year as a mission. Celebrations have been
planned for at least a year! At first I was really
disappointed when they were planning to celebrate in
9 different places. I wanted to see everyone. However,
I changed my mind when 3 districts from our region
alone had 1100 people. The Bible School was so
crowded! It was also filled with laughter,
fellowship and food.
In just six of the locations we have had a total of
over 10,000 people worshipping in gratitude for the
wonderful works of God. People are grateful for the
God transformation in their lives. We are grateful for the
food, fellowship, great music and challenging Word for
the future. A special thanks to Bishop Wayman Ming
and Rev. Dan Coleman for joining us in our celebrations!
The Pandemic has affected our world. However, it has
NOT affected our vision. In their ten-year goals the
Guatemalans have set a goal for growth. Their desire is
to grow from 388 churches to 800 churches in the next
ten years.
Pandemic affects are seen in the decreased enrollment
in our resident Bible School programs. However we
have been diligently working on our online classes.
At present online students have brought our total
Seminary student enrollment up to 272! While methods
are changing our mission remains the same - reach the
lost with the transforming power of the Good News.
CASA VIDA
Casa Vida may not be officially open yet - BUT WE
HAVE MOVED IN! Sandra and Sylvia are living and
studying in the new facilities. Daily you will find
Director Katy in working diligently in her new
office. We still have to finish furnishing the kitchen,
dining room and class room. But we are functional.
Please help us pray:
• That God will raise up the workers He wants
in this place
• That He will give us the wisdom to train
them His way
• That God will bring in the girls He has chosen
for this place
• That this is God’s work, done God’s way!
SUMMER 2023
Something just feels different in the region. There is a new excitement and
sense of collaboration. From plans for a Jamaican missions team to partner
with Trinidad and Tobago this fall to celebrate the charter of joint work in
South Florida, to dreaming about a new ministry plant in Georgetown,
Guyana, SA, God is opening doors as we spy out the land. Your prayers and
out our vital mission and expanding our outreach programs, we rely on the
support and contributions of compassionate individuals like you. No matter
the size of your donation, each contribution makes a difference. Your
generous support directly impacts lives, by helping us spread hope,
compassion, and love to those who need it most.
Update from Karen Ming
AFRICA OUTREACH
In these articles we write what has happened in our area (Africa countries) and what is about to happen.
I want to thank my friend, Faith Bogonko for coming to California to see me before speaking at our
General Assembly in Gatlinburg. We have been friends for seventeen years and I have shared with them
in building of a great church building and congregation in Nakuru, Kenya. She spoke at the Global
Conference in Brazil, where over 15,000 were present.
Then she ministered here in Vista, California at the River Gardens Church. Also, our General Assembly
was so blessed by her ministry. One of my greatest blessings is to partner with our Africa family
When you receive this, Windy Wright, our Medical Missionary, and I will have gone to have our first Africa
Medical Missions Clinic in Kenya (August 5th-11th). The team will consist of doctors, nurses, prayer
partners, children's workers, and helpers. The estimated number of people we will see is 2000 for four
days.
I want to especially give thanks to my wonderful Bishops Mark and Kimberly Roberts, who allowed me
the opportunity to present the need to raise money for the medical supplies. Our Southern California
pastors and people immediatedly responded and gave over $16,000 to take care of all the medical
supplies. What a blessing when our leaders see a need and step out in faith to help those meet the
needs to proclaim One Mission - One Movement around the world.
Thank you Bishops and Southern California. I am sure this is the beginning of many African clinics.
More to come about our Medical Mission Trip.
Our church in Biak, Papua Province, Indonesia just recently dedicated their new church building. This is
not a new congregation. We have had a church in Biak for a long time. They have just built a bigger and
nicer building. It took them about 8 long hard years to build this building. Also noteworthy, the pastor,
George Yawan, is the grandson of their former pastor, Mosses Yawan. Rev. Mosses finished his race and
went to heaven many years ago. But the church he pastored is still going strong. How wonderful to see
growth and improvements continuing on in the area where one used to minister. His grandson being the
pastor really cements the legacy of the Yawan family to the Biak congregation.
Old church in Biak. Picture furnished by
Bro. Copp.
Pastor George Yawan.
The past reminds us of God’s faithfulness and the labor of our predecessors. Our present ministry lets us
know that God is still leading us. I believe God has great things in store for Bukit Kalvari (Mt. Calvary)
church in Biak. Looking forward to seeing what God will do in the future.
A tent was set up outside for the dedication.
A Cassowary bird. Notice how
close these men are to this bird.
They are with us, not the park.
Signing the plaque for the church building.
Speaking of Biak, I remember something that happened years ago. We were
treated to a local tour. At a park, they has a cassowary bird. That was the first
time I had ever seen a cassowary. At that time, I thought it was an emu. I have
since learned that cassowaries, though smaller than emus, are more aggressive.
In fact, cassowaries are considered the most dangerous bird in the world. There
were several of us, including me, in the pin with this bird. I don’t know why we
were invited in the pin & given access to this bird. Maybe this particular cassowary
was tame. But, I’m sure glad I didn’t try to make a new friend that day. Thankful,
nothing happened. But I still associate Biak with this experience.
News From the Nutts
Bolivia
Greetings in the name of the Lord,
We are recovering slowly and are starting to see the light at the end of the
tunnel. It has been two months since my bone infection (osteomyelitis) has
shown signs of life and we are believing that it is gone. Surgery to remove the
intramedular pin from my leg is set for three months from now. We are still in
a legal battle over the wreck. While we were still in intensive care, the other
party had lawyers working with the police and they managed to make me
90% guilty of the accident and also guilty of an illegal maneuver. Some church
people that were at the hospital overheard the police talking with the other
party's family and lawyers that they would make my alcohol level read
positive. The people of the church threatened them that they would cause an
uproar, and they left it as is. The insurance company refused to cover us
because the police report showed that I had done something illegal. We
appealed the police report to a special technical force in the Police and they
reverted the initial decision giving me a 30% guilt and the other party
travelling with excessive speed going approx. 100 mph at the point of the collision. We still have not been
able to get our totaled vehicle out of the police warehouse as they are looking for a loop hole or someone to
pay that might help them out. The police garage charges a daily fee and the vehicles have been under
custody for over a year now. Pray that all works out soon. Flora still has vertigo and some whiplash concerns
but is also recovering. We are not able to travel outside of Bolivia until everything gets straightened out.
Between Covid and the accident, we have not travelled to the countries in our region. Bishop Marcelo
Torres of Chile reports that the churches are growing. Several new churches have been planted and the
church is providing all the funds locally. Bishop Gabriel Fuentes of Argentina also reports growth especially in
the northern region of Argentina. The amount of pastors and churches have increased in Argentina. Bishop
Ramon of Uruguay reports that all is well with the two
churches that we have and that they are growing.
Both Argentina and Uruguay are under severe
financial strain. All of the churches in our area
(Bolivia, Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile) are
indigenous, i.e. self-supporting, self-governing, selfpropagating,
and self-theologizing. This is positive for
the ongoing permanent presence of the PCG in the
southern cone of South America.
We will not be at convention nor be able to itinerate
for some time. We do miss you however, and hope that we will make it stateside sometime soon. It has been
four years since our last trip to Texas. The Lord is good and we are back in the saddle with out ministerial
obligations. We have online Bible school classes and church services several times a week. This weekend I will go
back to building a church building that is half there. I will be more of the errand boy and supervisore because of
my leg, but I am grateful to be able to do that again. It is a privelege to serve the lord in Bolivia nad to belong to
the PCG.
Blessings to you,
SUMMER 2023
News from the
Philippines!
PRAISE THE LORD!
We are so thankful that the
work of the Lord is continuing
to grow in the Philippines; new
churches are being planted,
and new Filipino missionaries
are being sent out to other
countries. PRAISE THE LORD!
PHILIPPINE TRIP! We
have just returned from a six
week ministry trip to the
Philippines. We were honored to be one of the speakers for
the PCGAMI National Assembly, along with World Missions
Director Virgil Kincaid, with more than 3,000 pastors and
church workers in attendance. Throughout the meeting we
felt the awesome presence of God as people
came to both worship the Lord and receive
the ministry of the Word of God. We were
able to also minister in many of the local
churches.
PAULA’S ACCIDENT! While in the
Philippines Paula fell and cracked her left
knee cap. She underwent knee surgery in the Philippines and
is now doing well with her therapy. We want to thank all of you who prayed for her. The surgeons said the operation was a
“text book success” and that she should regain full recovery, thank the Lord. We
know that doctors and medicine can only do so much. Healing ultimately comes
from the Lord.
THANK YOU! Because of the faithful giving of our Mission Partners, the
Parkmans, along with our Filipino National Bishop Felix Labang will be attending
the PCG General Assembly in Tennessee. Thank you for your faithfulness in
prayers and financial support. God bless you. You are making a difference!
The Pickett Family
"How are the kids?" Third culture kids can be described as growing up in a "square" host country, with a
"circle" passport country, and turning out as a "triangle" inside. Never perfectly fitting into their parent's
circle country, or even their square current home. They're special, these third-culture-global kids. Thank you
for all your prayers and intercession for our kids. The growing ministry Is important, and the camp project
will develop, but the hearts of our kids are the most precious thing!
Johnny (7) was so happy his dad baptized
him at the church Easter picnic. He likes
Roblox and riding bikes with friends.
Sophie (9) loves ballet lessons
and her cat Rocky.
Ben (11) is growing his hair out to
epic lengths, and has 2 rabbits,
Marshmallow and Oreo.
Sam (13) leads his gang of friends into
basketball games and awesome Fortnite
battles. His class voted him class president
for student council.
Chloe (15) likes ballet and film
making. She and her friends
recently showcased a film they
wrote, acted, produced, and
edited. She visited Cairo in March.
Ellie (16) visited Thailand over the spring break,
and an airport angel assisted her to her gate.
Ask her for the story when you see her. Her
rosette guinea pigs and their 3 furry babies keep
her busy.
Revs. Elman & Minerva Pineda El Salvador Missionaries
About Us
Since 2012 we have served as Sunday School Teachers, Licensed Co-Pastors, Licensed Youth Directors, and
Ordained Pastors for the PCG Arkansas District. After we responded to our call to missions, we completed
the missionary development studies and an 18-month Missionary Internship in the country of El Salvador.
In June 2023 we were appointed PCG missionaries to serve for a four year term in El Salvador.
Now What?
During our internship we developed new friendships with national
PCG (IDPA) leaders in El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala and
established ties with prospects for new ministries. We are currently
working on building a new church, helping in the transition of a
preaching station, and we are exploring options for establishing a
PCG (IDPA) National Center.
We expect to encourage Greatness
in Christ to all the people God
puts on our path.
For almost two years COVID restric4ons in Brazil made it very
difficult to con4nue certain projects along the Amazon River, and
our women’s co-op was one of those things. In the river
community of Timbó we have a project called Pearls of Amazonia
that focuses on empowering women not only to help financially
sustain their families but to develop skills and self-esteem. This
project teaches the women to create beau4ful jewelry out of
natural resources found in the Amazon. The jewelry is then sold in
the city of Manaus and along the Amazon.
In the last year we have been able to restart this project and are
excited as we have doubled the number of women involved to 32! As the women meet together at our
mission base to create beau4ful jewelry, they also receive discipleship and learn more of the Word of God.
It is a precious 4me of sharing, learning, prayer, and devo4on.
Our missionaries to the river communi4es of the Amazon, Gustavo and Debora and their team, con4nue to
work with discipleship, teaching, and outreach. The team also provides tutoring to the children in the
communi4es as well as water filters to communi4es without clean water. We are grateful for all of the
support for these projects and are excited as we look to expand into other communi4es in the near future.
Sharing the gospel in a new Borana area and in the Karo tribes. We saw over 200 decisions for Jesus Christ after
showing Jesus film, sharing the good news of Christ and praying for the sick.
Greetings in Jesus name,
In my recent trip to Ethiopia, my youngest
daughter Carissa and I went deep into the
bush to share Christ in a new Borana tribe area
and another area of Karo tribe. Sharing the
Jesus film and sharing the good news of Christ
we saw over 200 new believers come to Jesus
Christ. We had some significant challenges
with the rain and mud getting to these areas
but God was faithful and we saw
breakthrough!
We were also able to attend a large crusade in Arbaminch where my daughter
Carissa was able to play piano for thousands during the altar call and prayers for
miracles. It was a wonderful time of seeing old friends and meeting new ones.
Thank you for your support as we continue to reach the unreached and forgotten.
RYAN AND ANNA WARREN
SPRING/SUMMER 2023
GLOBAL EDUCATION
BIBLICAL
INTERPRETATION
SEMINAR
A specific area of need that was met was
Biblical Interpretation, specifically in South
Sudanese refugee settlements. We were able
to facilitate 4 Biblical Interpretation
Seminars with great success.
Locations of Trainings: Impevi, BidiBidi,
Arua, and Kampala.
We successfully completed our goals while
on field in Uganda by establishing many
strong connections with local pastors,
humanitarian organizations, and community
leaders. This field was the beginning of a
new PCG Global Education program called
Research and Development (R&D), which
establishes intercultural fields for future
ministers to step into a full-time missionary
work.
UGANDA
The first portion of 2023 was spent on-field in
Uganda developing new educational programs
and testing the effectiveness of multiple ongoing
programs and curriculums. This field
was chosen specifically for the lack of PCG
presence, so that new relationships could be
built and over twenty connections were made
throughout the country.
SAKE PASE’ Haiti
SAKE PASE’ (translated What’s Up!) From the beautiful people of Haiti!
The adventure never ceases! Or as my dad often said “it never has time to get boring around here!”
And 2023 has certainly kept that philosophy rolling along. We are still fighting to get our insurance to repair our home
from hurricane Ian last September. Continue to pray with us as the damages are very extensive.
I made a ministry swing through Ohio and the end of March into April.
We had great times of worship in Findlay with Pastor LD Roessler and
in Gilboa/Ottowa with Pastor Jerry Meyer. But the real reason was to
be able to spend a few days with my father. I spent 7 days in
Zanesville with him which turned out to be some of the last of his life.
On the day I left, I knelt beside him and the two of us took Holy
Communion together. He went to bed as I left and only got out of it
one more time before he passed from this life. I have been truly
blessed to be the son of Pat & Joyce Wilson. They gave their lives, not just for the PCG,
which they did, but for the gospel of Jesus Christ. I stated at dad’s funeral that the older I
get there are really only two phrases I want to hear spoken. I want to hear my heavenly
father say “well done son, welcome home” and I want to hear my earthly father say “well
done my son”. Well, I have one down and one more to go. Dad instilled my love for
missions. He took me to Haiti the first time in 1973. We went to Ghana, Jordan, Israel,
Netherlands, Philippines, and Mexico together. I will continue to do as I have been taught
and as the Holy Spirit leads. Evangelist, Pastor, District Executive, National Executive
God gave a big “Well done Dr. Harry O. “Pat” Wilson, receive your heavenly reward.”
The week that we laid dad to rest I received a phone call from Bishop Howard here in
Florida. He asked us to receive appointment to be Pastors in Lakeland. After a few days
I called him back and we accepted. We are not ceasing our work in Haiti. In fact, this
will help us in several ways to increase the ministry. One is that hurricane damage took
away our office and where we made video production. The church has facility to set up
production again so we will be back online by end of July! Stay tuned for updates and
follow Church Alive Lakeland on Facebook, Instagram and twitter beginning July 1 st .
Haiti is struggling under the lawlessness rampant across the country. More than 600 kidnappings per month in Port Au
Prince alone are being recorded. It’s been nearly two years of no government and the crisis is dire. Food, fuel, water is
all in short supply. Every mission’s organization is struggling to meet the needs. We have managed to keep all but 2
churches open. Bishop Raynald and our team of leaders across the nation are working hard. I work with activist groups
who approach this crisis from the civic level. But I know this is a spiritual war and it will be a warring church that brings
peace to Haiti. Let us join in prayer with our leadership and help them defeat the enemy they are facing. Bind the evil,
release Heaven!
Please pray daily for Bishop Raynald, Bishop Cerventes, Leslie Innocent and our Haitian church family. They are
succeeding in ministry in the middle of very tough circumstances. We are all thankful for your support!
