SUMMER 2023 PROGRAM BOOK

BIG THINGS are on the way!
There are big changes on the horizon, both for SacAnime and the Sacramento Convention Center. We will
be a little cramped for this show due to electrical renovations taking place in Ballroom B, but we’re packing
every space we have with maximum entertainment for you!
We have been listening to attendee feedback, and working with our contractors and staff to bring back
some old fan-favorites, as well as looking for NEW options that better fit our SacAnime community. A few of
these items have been immediately applied, like the Itasha car show, expanded cosplay gatherings, and the
return of SKITS to the masquerade, but many will need to wait until we have Ballroom B back this winter.
(Video Gaming, Art Show, Starlight Ball, and more!)
We truly appreciate the support and energy of the SacAnime community as we get ready to begin our
TWENTIETH year, and these changes and improvements are our way of saying thanks. We’d like to invite
attendees to give us feedback through our Attendee Survey, so we can get a better idea of where to focus
our efforts next!
NICK APOSTOLIDES
Since 2011, Nick Apostolides has developed his heavy dramatic style of method acting in films, worked on over 100
commercials, been nominated for an Emmy (Hosting) and has now entered the world of Motion Capture/VO. Most
recently he portrayed Officer Leon Kennedy in the Resident Evil 2 & 4 Remake (body, face, voice) and has also voiced
2 characters over 3 games in the Life Is Strange universe (Frank Bowers and Charles Erikson). Right now he is traveling
the world on a 10-episode Docu-build show that helps communities/organizations in need. Stay tuned for some new and
exciting MoCap projects that are already completed!
Nick was born in Salem, MA and spent most of his life in the Boston area. He was lucky enough to have been raised with
two amazing brothers, Steve and Dave. He led an extremely artistic and creative childhood but eventually shifted his focus
to acting due to his love of the cinematic experience. The unconditional support of his parents Steve and Dotty has always
played a huge factor in every single endeavor.
Though he is always very sociable and outgoing, Nick often portrays characters that have more stoic, complex and
mysterious qualities. Reflection and empathy play the largest role in his preparation.
DON BLUTH
Bluth’s passion for the Art of Animation is the driving force that fueled his film career for a period of more than four
decades. According to Bluth, he was not driven to animation but extremely attracted to it mainly because of the sheer
beauty of its look. Don grew up on the early Disney films, Snow White, Bambi and Pinocchio. He was only four years old
when these pictures inspired him. He knew immediately that someday, it would be part of his world. Bluth is considered
by some critics to be unique in that he successfully challenged the powers of the ‘Mouse House,’ as a serious competitor,
bringing to the silver screen such memorable milestones as The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail, The Land Before Time,
and Anastasia.’ All in all, Don and his partner, Gary Goldman, produced twelve animated features and three video games
including, Dragon’s Lair and Space Ace.
Don Bluth is one of the most acclaimed directors and animators in the industry. His peers from all over the world admire
him for his creative talents as well as his versatility in bringing memorable characters to life. He designs the characters,
serves as Key Storyboard Artist, and when the mood strikes him, he has also been known to compose some clever songs
and collaborate on most of the scripts for his projects. Both he and his partner, Gary Goldman are responsible for the
training of over 1000 artisans that currently populate the industry. Bluth was born into a family of seven children in El
Paso, Texas. He grew up on a dairy farm in Payson, Utah in a highly creative environment. When he was not milking cows,
he was drawing cartoons. Animation captured his fancy and soon he was dreaming about working for Walt Disney. In
1955 he graduated from high school, and immediately took a portfolio of his drawings to the Disney studios in Burbank
where he landed a position in the animation department as an in-betweener. Bluth worked at Disney from 1955 through
1956 on the classic motion picture Sleeping Beauty. He left after one year to follow other life pursuits, re-entered the
animation field in 1967 at Filmation Studios and finally returned to Disney in 1971. During his ten years working at the
Walt Disney studios, Bluth had four fantastic mentors, John Lounsbery, Frank Thomas, Milt Kahl, and Wolfgang (Wooly)
Reitherman. According to Bluth, the one he learned from the most was John Lounsbury. He was generous, knowledgeable,
and I was dating his daughter. In 1979, Bluth, along with Gary Goldman and John Pomeroy, founded Don Bluth Productions.
GUESTS!
JIM CUMMINGS
Tell the kid he’s got it,” said the legendary Mel Blanc with a smile, after
listening to a young man’s first demo tape of cartoon character voices.
The year was 1984, “the kid,” was Jim Cummings. Since then, the kid
has gone on to give life and voice to some of America’s most beloved
animal Characters, even a few of the late Mel Blanc’s, and he was even
nominated for an Emmy Award for his work as the lovable Tigger on
Disney Channel’s “My Friends Tigger and Pooh,” in which he also voices
everyone’s favorite bear, Winnie the Pooh.
Born and raised in Youngstown Ohio, Cummings spent Saturday mornings
riveted to the TV screen as he mimicked the characters in his favorite
cartoons, all the while dreaming that one day he would voice them
himself. At age 19, he moved to New Orleans, where he performed as
a drummer, a singer, a deck hand on riverboats, and even designed and
created Mardi Gras floats, all the while absorbing the rich characters and
accents that would someday find expression in animation.
Years later, Cummings relocated to Southern California and managed a
video store as he pursued his childhood dream. He gave his first demo
to a customer who was also a movie producer, and the rest, as they say, is history. In 1984, Cummings landed his first role as Lionel the lion, in
Disney Channel’s “Dumbo Circus.” During his illustrious career, he has worked extensively for the Walt Disney Studios voicing classic characters
such as Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, King Louis, Kaa the Snake, Pete (formerly peg legged Pete), and more. His many other credits include Darkwing
Duck, Bonkers, Fat Cat, and Monterey Jack on “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers,” Don Kamage on “Tailspin,” and too many others to mention here.
Cummings has done scores of voices for Warner Bros, as well, including Taz the Tazmanian Devil himself, Steven Spielberg’s “Animaniacs,” ”Tiny
Toon Adventures,” “Batman,” ”Pinky and the Brain,” ”Tazmania,” “Duck Dodgers,” and more. Other credits include “King of the Hill,” “Bump in the
Night,” “Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius,” “The Replacments,” “The Addams Family,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “The Simpsons,”
“Sophia the First” and “Transformers”. He was nominated for a Daytime Emmy award for his role of Hondo in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”.
Not Limited to the small screen, Cummings has acted in several blockbuster feature films for Dreamworks including “Shrek,” “Antz,” “Kung Fu
Panda’s Furious 5,” “Hook,” “The Bee Movie,” “Balto,” and more. His credits read like a top-list of animated and live-action films. Credits include
“Who framed Roger Rabbit,” “The Little Mermaid,” ‘Aladdin,” “Tarzan,” “Pocahontas,” “The Lion King,” “Babe: Pig in the City,” “The Hunchback of
Notre Dame,” “Brother Bear 2,” “The Princess and The Frog ” to name a few. He was even nominated for an Annie Award for his performance in
“Gnomeo and Juliet,” where he played the amorous garden flamingo, Featherstone.
Cummings’ uncanny ability to sing in character and voice match for stars who are, in his words, “great actors, just not great singers,” has led to
many platinum and gold records for soundtracks like “Anastasia,” “The Lion King,” “Fox and the Hound,” “Pocahontas,” “Hercules,” and more. He
was also AC, the lead singer of the famed California Raisins.
Cummings’ work in voice over includes hundreds of television and radio commercials, movie trailers, promos, and videogames. “Pretty much
anything involving microphones, music, noise in general, and padded walls,“ jokes the affable actor, and “remember, only you can prevent forest
fires,” so says Smokey the Bear, aka Jim Cummings. No matter how busy Cummings, schedule may be, it all stops when Famous Fone Friends of
Make a Wish Foundation call on behalf of a very ill child and distraught family in need of a phone call from their favorite cartoon character. “Just
bringing a respite, however brief, and perhaps a smile and giggle or two, means so much to the child and their family. I consider it a true blessing
to be able to do that.”
Cummings is a proud father of four and resides somewhere in California with his beautiful two younger daughters Grace and Lulu Rose…and
their critters.
GENERATIONS OF AUTHENTICATION EXPERIENCE
Autograph collecting is a Spence family tradition that has been passed down
through four generations. Following his grandfather and father, founder James
Spence Jr. started out as an avid collector of sports memorabilia. Collecting
autographs turned into a business as he traveled across the country attending
major trade shows buying and selling memorabilia. His passion for autographs
led him to extensive research and compiling an autograph exemplar library,
which is second to none in the autograph industry today. James, Jr's reputation
within the autograph world caught the attention of major auction houses
across the country, which then employed his authentication services for their
upcoming auctions.
Thirty years later James Spence has built a worldwide reputation as the premier
autograph authenticator in the world.
