The next generation of legal
professionals are upon us, and their
influence is starting to take hold. The
tables have started to turn as Millennials
now make up the majority of the work
force, and they are starting to take
on leadership roles, making positive
changes and transforming the culture of
the legal world.
There is a natural progression taking
place, as young people take their place
in society, their culture, knowledge,
skills, and perspectives create a wave of
change. This isn’t a new phenomenon,
and every generation has made an
impact on the way we work. Now is the
time to embrace change, and create an
environment that will ensure the success
and happiness of the next generation of
legal professionals.
In this edition we delve into what the
future holds for the next generation of
legal professionals, what work will look
like for them, and what they are looking
for when it comes to finding a company
to call home.
We start off with an interview with the
incredible Shanika Varga-Haynes, the
President of the Leeds Law Society.
We learn of her journey to where she
is now, and all the work she is doing as
President. Our second interview is with
recruitment expert Joel Lalgee, where
he discusses how to attract and retain
young professionals.
Our first two insights are from legal
professionals just starting in their career,
Fabian Murray and Rhian Evans, telling
us about what inspired them to enter the
world of law, and what they look for in
a law firm when searching for the right
job for them. Our second two insights
are from law firm owners, Rachael
Pearson and Shaheen Mamun, who tell
us what they look for when hiring young
professionals, and what their firms are
doing to support their careers.
