Just as our gardeners have
had success, Manchester
Elementary School (MES) has
been collecting accolades this
year. Dr. Katie Jenner, State
Secretary of Education, visited
Manchester Elementary
to celebrate their recent success
on the IREAD-3 Assessment.
MES received a pass
rate of 95.2%, the highest
pass percentage rate of any elementary
school in Dearborn
County! This accomplishment
garnered praise from both Superintendent
Eric Lows and
Principal Mary Bailey. Eric
shared, “Literacy is vital to
ensure Indiana’s students are
prepared to explore and experience
a variety of pathways,

to empower Indiana’s schools
and educators with researchbased,

In September, members
from our sister city
Meckesheim in Germany
visited Harrison. The Mayor,
Maik Brandt, and other
Meckesheim city officials
signed the Sister City
Proclamation between the two
cities.
While visiting Harrison,
the group from Germany was
treated to many activities.
They toured local businesses,
attended a varsity football
game at Harrison High
School, rode the vintage
fire truck and rang its bell
in The District on Harrison
Avenue, took a trip to
downtown Cincinnati to
tour the brewery tunnels in
downtown Cincinnati, and
visited the Cincinnati Zoo. At
the Harrison Wildcat football
game, the German group
was honored at center field at
halftime.
The highlight of the visit
was the re-signing of the City
Partnership Agreement at the
Fall Food Truck Rally in The
District in front of a packed
Meckesheim Mayor, Maik
Brandt along with Harrison
Mayor Bill Neyer after resigning
the Sister City proclamation.

was recently held in Dillsboro.

A young lady from Farmers
Retreat, Kelsey Kitchell,
was diagnosed with Down
Syndrome at birth, and she is
a two-time cancer survivor.
Kelsey has been blessed to
have many wonderful people
in her life, one of them being
Jill Pruss. Jill was Kelsey’s
aide from the time she was
three years old. Jill was willing
to help out with a picture
that Kelsey wanted to take for
her mother at the One Room
Schoolhouse in Farmers Retreat.
She likes to make a calendar
each year for Kelsey’s
birthday. Jill unlocked the
museum and showed up in a
pretty dress made just for the
era of the 1888 schoolhouse.
Pam dressed Kelsey and
her dog Auggie in the same
period. Pam said we are very
blessed to have such a gem
as this restored schoolhouse
in our area. Built in 1888 and
completely restored in 1993,
this museum is listed on the
National Register of Historical
Places.
Dillsboro Arts Friendship
Gallery is featuring artworks
by local artists in an Open Call
Exhibition Oct. 7-Nov. 25.
An open house reception is
planned for Oct. 13, 6-8 P.M.
