Welcome to Auburn, the
Endurance Capital of the
World! Auburn claimed
this title in 2003, given the vast
number and range of endurance
competitions that call Auburn home.
It all started with the Western States
Endurance Ride in 1955, (aka, the
Tevis Cup), a 100-mile in one day
horse race from the Tahoe area
to Auburn. Today, Auburn is host
to numerous endurance events,
including the world-renowned
Western States Endurance 100-mile
run, Tevis Cup, and Canyons by
UTMB, with participants traveling
here from all over the world.
With the scenic American River
Canyon as our backyard, it is easy
to understand that Auburn has
something to offer every level of
outdoor enthusiast. Whether you
enjoy a leisurely hike with the
family along the river, rafting rapids,
or running or horseback riding
along the Western States Trail, the
outdoors are yours.
Let’s not forget cyclists and
e-bike riders who have access to a
plethora of trails and pathways here
as well. And if you need a ride to the
trailhead or the river, use Auburn’s
On-Demand transit service to get
you there.
Although endurance sports
and outdoor recreation are a
major draw, Auburn really has
something for everyone. As the seat
of Placer County, Auburn is home
to the historic and iconic County
Courthouse located in the heart
of the city. The courthouse has a
fantastic ground floor museum,
which currently boasts a beautifully
restored soda fountain along with
the largest
gold nugget
discovered in
the county.
Speaking of
museums,
there are
several of them
with walking
tours located
throughout
the city, and
a new one on
the horizon:
the Western
States Trail
Museum, which
will be located
adjacent to
the California
Welcome
Center in
Auburn’s
Central Square.
Auburn’s downtown core is
home to more than 100 businesses,
including unique retail shops,
delicious restaurants, professional
services, fitness facilities, and
coffeehouses. For those who enjoy
craft beer, we also have several
award-winning breweries, as well
as a cider house. If you prefer local
wine, we have multiple stellar
wineries close by.
In addition, we have a robust
business community and an active
and hard-working Chamber of
Commerce. Auburn is also home to
numerous of service and non-profit
organizations where volunteers
work tirelessly to make Auburn
the best that it can be. Auburn’s
faith community is strong, and
our art and cultural community is
bustling. Auburn not only boasts

a fantastic State Theatre with live
performances; it also has the only
symphony in the foothills!
Auburn has a state-of-the art
airport and industrial park located

contribute significantly to the local
economy.
