Welcome to Auburn, the heart of Placer County and
the coolest town in the Sierra foothills.
The historic Gold Rush community
of Auburn is an outdoor
mecca, home to some of
the world’s most storied endurance
races, with a rich culinary scene
that highlights locally grown food,
wine, and ale. In fact, Auburn’s exploding
craft brewery scene ranks
among the best in California.
Start your journey by stopping
by the California Welcome Center
(1103 High St.), which is located
on Central Square in the Old
Firehouse building. The recently
updated center celebrates the
county’s rich history and connects
it to the city's modern-day outdoor
playground. Check out the
touchscreen station to explore the
trails, museums, and the wine and
ale trail, or use the updated kiosk
to create a travel itinerary. If you’re
old-school, browse the center for
trail maps, attraction brochures,
souvenirs, and guidebooks. The
knowledgeable staff can help you
plan your visit and also give you a
hand in finding a great place to eat,
where to have a glass of wine, or
how to start a walking tour of one
of Auburn’s historic districts.
From the Welcome Center, you
can build multiple itineraries, all
within minutes. If you like to hike,
bike, or horseback ride, you can
be at the Confluence of the North
and Middle Fork of the American
River in less than 10 minutes. The
county is home to more than two

Trail. You’ll find more than two

Shopping in Auburn is an experience
in its own right. Both
Downtown and Old Town combine
upscale boutique shopping with art
galleries, fun eateries, and historic
storefronts.
Check out the Gold Rush Museum
while you’re in town, where
kids can replicate gold panning
