An Adoption Story

“God’s hand was in it.
It was meant to be.”
Wife and mother Katie Gable can look back at her family’s
journey over the last few years and see that God had a plan all
along, but the road had some bumps along the way.
Katie and her husband Jacob married in 2014, and looked
forward to the day they would welcome their first child. After a
few years, it seemed a biological child may not be in their future,
so after much prayer, the couple decided they would begin the
process of adoption. God had other plans, however. “I was driving
to work on a Monday morning, thinking about our pastor’s sermon
the day before, and meditating on this verse from John 14:13:
‘And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father
may be glorified.’ I poured out my heart to God and prayed for
Him to bless us with a child.”
Six weeks later, a positive pregnancy test revealed that Katie’s
prayer had been answered, and their son Gus was born on October
26, 2017.
When Gus was a year old, Katie noticed a small bump on her left
arm. It didn’t go away, so she went to the doctor. The Gables were
shocked to learn that Katie had metastatic melanoma, the most
aggressive form of skin cancer. Katie had surgery to remove the spot,
and doctors discovered the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes.
Treatment was difficult, physically and emotionally. “I just wanted
to be a mom and take care of my son, which was really hard to do
when I was so drained.”
