This month, Members’ Editor Jon Follenfant posed a series of questions to Martin
Roberts, Group Chief Retail Officer, Post Office Ltd (PO), for our year-end edition of
The SubPostmaster magazine.
As a leading and important figure in the lives of UK postmasters, determining the economic viability of their
post offices, there are so many questions which our readers are interested in. Postmaster profitability has taken
a hit over the past three or four years due to Covid and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis which has led to higher
operating costs – wages, utilities, etc – coupled with the increased digitalisation of the economy and societal
changes without the necessary significant increases in remuneration.
