Winter Eye Care
With the cold, windy weather and dark
nights you’re probably finding that your
eyes are not at their clearest. Lower
temperatures outside and heating inside
can result in your eyes feeling dry and
gritty.
The wind can make your eyes run, often caused by
dryness, whereby the tears evaporate and don’t
moisten the surface of the eye. The ‘tear film’ isn’t as
good at sticking to the surface of your eye.
Research shows that a diet rich in Vitamin A, Lutein
and omega oils ( green veg, eggs, peppers etc) help
but it wont give you instant relief. Ask your optician
for advice on dry eye drops. Proven to alleviate the
symptoms of dry eye they can be used as frequently
as required. Remember they are not a cure so dont
stop using them unless the optician advises. It’s like
cleaning your teeth, a maintenance programme to
keep things at their best.
You may find driving at night more tiring. Brighter
headlights and higher vehicles are distracting. it is
not advisible to wear the driving glasses advertised
on line. The yellow tint is often too dark and the
wavelength of the tint colour can affect your braking
distance. Invest in the latest prescription driving
lenses.
Enroute have a contrast enhancing filter that is
also helpful in mist and fog. Available as a lens for
distance vision and also as a varifocal. The Enroute
varifocal lens is designed to give you a wider area for
distance and the dashboard maximizing the distance
you need for driving. Remember that your optician is
there to help you with anything eye related, so if you
have any concerns just ask.
