17 System boundaries for carton production The gate-to-gate inventory for conversion of cartonboard into cartons is presented in Table 2 according to the following declared unit: one tonne (1000 kg) of printed, cut, creased, folded and glued cartons The system boundaries of the life cycle inventory for conversion of cartonboard into carton include all activities associated with processing cartonboard into cartons. Thus, included in the inventory are all the inputs and outputs (from/to the technosphere and from/to nature) associated with: • Printing • Cutting and Creasing • Folding • Gluing • Supporting activities used in conversion process, e.g., onsite energy generation, such as space heating for the factory.
