Demanding day trips for experienced people with appropriate 

condition, surefootedness and a head for heights in the southern 

mountains of the Hohe Tauern. 

Equipment: Ankle high hiking boots, drinks, snacks, backpack, 

warm / windproof clothing, rain protection, rescue foil, bandage, 

mobile phone. 

2. DIMENSION 

till 2,300 m 

Varied day hikes in the area of the Kitzbüheler Alpen (Pinzgauer 

grass mountains) and up to above the tree line of the Hohe Tauern. 

You should already have some hikes in your legs before you start with 

the tours in the 3 rd dimension. 

Equipment: Ankle high hiking boots, drinks, snacks, backpack, 

rain protection, mobile phone. 

1. DIMENSION 

till 1,300 m 

Easy hikes along the valley, up to the tree line. The routes take from 

one hour up to half day. It is an ideal start for your hiking season and 

to prepare you for the 2 nd Dimension. 

Equipment: Light hiking boots, drinking bottle, energy bar.

of discovery through 4 climate zones from 768 m to the 

glacier world at 3,029 m. How does glacial ice form? 

Where do golden eagles and bearded vultures live? What 

are the survival strategies of the edelweiss and the saxifrage?

NATIONAL PARK GALLERY TOUR

Experience fascinating insights and views of the Hohe 

Tauern National Park. From Salzburg's highest viewing 

platform "TOP OF SALZBURG" you can walk through 

the mystical National Park Gallery inside the mountain. 

The viewing platform is one of the highlights of the 

Kitzsteinhorn.

Explore with a ranger on the "Smaragdweg" the peculiarities 

of the trough valley and the green glittering treasure 

trove: the precious emeralds. You’ll also learn how 

gemstone hunting works and where exactly searching is 

allowed. Keep an eye out for golden eagles and marmots 

and enjoy a cozy stop at the end of the tour at the Alpengasthof 

Alpenrose.

CASTLE SIGHTSEEING TOUR

Walk through 600 years of eventful history. You can 

still feel the atmosphere of days gone by when you enter 

the venerable Kaprun Castle. It is like a journey back in

idea of how the counts and lords of the castle spent their 

days.

TRIP TO THE ARCTIC 

9th July to 3rd September 

Start your mountain adventure with a national park 

ranger at 2,311 metres. Learn about the adaptation 

strategies of animals and plants in the high mountains 

as you hike to "Eissee", where you'll see the foothills 

of the Sonnblick glacier.

SCHÖDERSEE 

9 th July to 3 rd September 

The tour leads to Ötzlsee, where you officially enter 

the Hohe Tauern National Park. It continues along a 

narrow path alongside the Schöderbach towards Arlscharte, 

deeper into the National Park. At the end of 

the tour, you’ll reach Schödersee, a special mountain 

lake referred to as a periodic lake due to its natural 

underground drainage, which fills only during snwomelt 

and periods of heavy precipitation.

KING OF THE SKIES 

10th July to 4th September 

In 1986, the alpine region’s first bearded vulture was 

released in the Krumltal to reintroduce the “king of 

the skies”, once eradicated in our area. At brief stops, 

spotting scopes are set up to scan the peaks for the birds. 

With a bit of luck, you may also spot other wild animals.

GLOCKNER BUS - BUS TOUR 

29 th May to 29 th September 

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is one of the most 

impressive and beautiful scenic roads in Europe. A 

special driving pleasure by car, motorbike or completely 

relaxed with the Glockner Bus into the incomparable 

world of experience in the heart of the Hohe Tauern 

National Park. The bus tour is accompanied by an experienced 

and knowledgeable National Park Ranger.

Scenic landscape framed by three-thousand-meter 

peaks – Along a well-developed forest road, the tour 

leads from the Tauernhaus to the picturesque Käfertal, 

situated below the “Großes Wiesbachhorn” with its impressive 

glacier world. Observe the inhabitants of alpine 

meadows and pastures, including around 300 beetle and 

almost 200 large butterfly species.

The tour begins with the bus to Abichlalm, where the 

tour start. The path winds through a sparse larch forest 

to Aschamalm. From here, you’ll explore off-trail 

into the heart of the Sulzbachtäler wilderness area to 

the impressive Untersulzbachkees glacier. Experience 

the pristine nature of this untouched landscape, guaranteed 

to leave a lasting impression.

The Hohe Tauern National Park Worlds will open ten new exhibition rooms 

in Mittersill in May 2024. The reopening of the popular exhibition is much 

more than just a facelift. While visitor attractions such as the 360° cinema or 

the eagle flight panorama remain, they are now embedded within an entirely 

novel narrative concept. Visitors will explore themes such as „Marmot & Co,“ 

„Peaks from the Seabed,“ or „Wild Waters.“ Emotionally, one follows the path 

from the highest spheres of the national park down to the alpine pasture 

and into the valley.

The adventure hike, the so-called Baptism 

of Fire, is a true challenge with tricky questions, 

daring tests of courage and exciting 

exercises. For two-wheeler fans: You get 

to go full throttle - with zero emissions in 

the E-Motocross Park. Offroad Park - The 

challenge is to master the parcour with 

oversized toy cars, also called "crawler". 

Hiking on the Schmitten becomes child's 

play because step by step, Schmidolin 

is growing up in the most creative and 

special way. Children have to help him 

learn how to breathe fire. If you solve all 

the puzzles along the way, you'll receive a 

well-earned reward afterwards. 

Enjoy some breath-taking views during a 

cruise or lake-crossing: the Kitzsteinhorn, 

the Steinerne Meer range and, of course, 

Zell's landmark mountain, the Schmittenhöhe. 

The best spot for that is up on the 

ship's sun deck! 

The mountain stations are ideal starting 

points for hikes such as the Pinzgauer Spaziergang
