And for Mike and Laura Pritchard, whose business Dot & Winnies Eatery was named after those two nannas, the past year since they opened has been testament to their love of food. The café, at 127 Alexandra Street in Hamilton oozes the families’ traditions of hospitality and warmth, backed by the décor and their grandmothers’ vintages baking dishes, with Laura saying everything is made in house. “I do a lot of classic baking with a modern twist, so you’ll see a lot of our grandmother’s favourite recipes on offer here, but with a nod to the fusion of today’s tastes.” There is a full cabinet stocked with everything from sweet to savoury, from scones and Louise slices, for example, to salads, with hot savoury food items on offer as well.
