Young Playwrights 2021-2022
The Plays
JAKE and ADAM are no longer in the apartment, instead, they are waiting at a bus
stop. JAKE is still holding on to the microwave.
So ... (Beat) is this it?
ADAM
JAKE
C'mon, don't be dramatic, I'll visit! You know/ that. ..
ADAM
No, I really mean it! What if one of us moves away or passes ... okay that's a bit
extreme ... but the statement stills stands! It's just that (Beat) maybe we should've
stayed in that grungy old apartment. ..
Pause.
JAKE
ADAM, look at me. I've finally had a coherent thought about this whole ... THING,
and if you want to hear it, it's this. If we hadn't left the apartment now, we'd probably
have died of old age in there. You/ have potential, use it.
But!
Pause.
ADAM
JAKE
ADAM? The bus is on its way, and I'm sure your old friends are waiting for you,
right?
JAKE puts down the microwave and both JAKE and ADAM walk over to each other
and awkwardly hug it out for a second. Afterwards, JAKE picks up his microwave
and ADAM steps back to the bus stop.
I'll see you around?
Yep.
ADAM
JAKE
The lights slowly fade out. JAKE (VOICEOVER) finally releases the breath he had
taken during the dinner scene.
