WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING<br />

Work Integrated Learning<br />

The <strong>IfE</strong>’s aspiration is that Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) is embedded as a formal component into its<br />

undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Therefore, degree programmes addressed towards educators’<br />

development and initial teacher training have embedded within them a WIL component; this is reflected<br />

primarily through the teaching practice and the micro-placement modules. The WIL Department offers<br />

course participants the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge gained from their academic settings<br />

to a work-based scenario.<br />

Teaching Practice<br />

Teaching Practice is a vital component of initial<br />

teacher-training programmes as it provides an<br />

opportunity for the learners to put theory into<br />

practice and to self-reflect on teaching and<br />

assessment methods employed in the classroom.<br />

Furthermore, this module is an integral part of the<br />

programme, which will also contribute towards<br />

partially fulfilling the requirements outlined by the<br />

Council for the Teaching Profession with respect<br />

to applications for a teacher’s warrant.<br />

The <strong>IfE</strong> offers Teaching Practice placements within<br />

the following degree programmes:<br />

• Award in Supporting Learners with<br />

Individual Educational Needs<br />

• Introductory Course for Supply Teachers<br />

(Award)<br />

• Award in Assisting the Childcare Educator<br />
