WORK INTEGRATED LEARNING
Micro-Placements in Industry
The IfE is offering micro-placements within the industry. The
uniqueness of this concept is that the micro-placement modules
are integrated within qualifications that are targeted towards initial
teachers’ training and specialisation in education. We seek to build
a stronger bridge between the education sector and the world of
work through this initiative.
MICRO-PLACEMENT

The micro-placement modules are found in two programmes
offered by the IfE:
• Within the Bachelor of Education (Hons), the microplacement
module carries six (6) ECTS, with 90 hours of
hands-on training
• As an MQF level 7 Award (10 ECTS), the programme is
targeting educators already working in the field who are
primarily seeking to further their continuous professional
development by making their teaching practices more
relevant in an ever-growing knowledge-based economy,
through a work experience of 180 hours in an industry of their
choice.

Micro-placement usually take place during the summer months as follows:
MICRO-PLACEMENT DURATION PERIOD
Bachelor of Education (Hons) 90 hours of placement June – August
Award in Micro-Placement in Industry 180 hours of placement June – August
Through these modules, our course participants will gain additional skills through collaboration, networking,
and critical thinking. This experience will provide an opportunity for our course participants to be engaged
within the community in which they are learning, and therefore, they will eventually be able to incorporate
practical examples within the classroom.
These modules will allow course participants to experience the transition from a classroom-based scenario
to working within an industry of their choice, an experience which they will refer to when preparing their
students holistically for the future.
