Swimming Lessons
The goal of the aquatics program is for the student to continually
make progress with each class. Each class is structured to build on the
skills learned in the previous class. A student who does not possess the
minimum skills required for the class enrolled will hinder the progress
of the other students as well as his or her own, and will not be allowed
to continue.
Students may register for only one session of classes at a time.
Student must be finished with half of their current course to
register for future classes and must have a recommendation from
their instructor to advance.
Waiting Lists: Request to be placed on a specific waitlist when an
aquatic class fills. You will be contacted by staff if openings occur due
to cancellations, or if new classes are added.
Level Assessment
Registration for a swim level assesment is now being accepted.
Parents: It is very important to register your child for the appropriate swimming lesson
based on their skill level. If you are unsure of which class your child should be placed
in, level assessments are available on the following dates to determine their appropriate
level placement: Wednesdays, November 28 & December 5 (4 – 6 p.m.); Saturday &
Sunday, December 1 & 2 (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.). If you are unable to attend a scheduled
assessment, please contact Jenny at jgarvey@eminnetonka.com or (952) 939-8374 to
schedule a time for your child to be tested.
Refunds will not be issued if your child is placed in the wrong class due to failure to
attend an assessment. If there happens to be an opening in the class your child should be
registered for, you may pay a $25 transfer fee to move into the correct class. However, if
there is no opening in the correct class, no refund will be granted.
New! Older Active Adults Water/Swim Lessons
Do you have a fear of water? Wouldn’t dare to think of putting
your face under? Perhaps you have grandkids now and would like
to be able to enjoy water play with them. This class is designed to
help you conquer your fear and learn to be comfortable in such
situations. Instructor Debbie Zarling is an aquatic therapist who
has taught children and adults at Courage Center for 15 years.
She looks forward to the opportunity to work again with adults
to enhance their enjoyment of the water. Water can bring people
together socially and also for a good physical work out, whether
just walking or actually learning how to swim.
Preschool Gymnastics
(952) 933-2452 www.mini-hops.com
Recreation Services has teamed up with Mini-Hops Gymnastics
to provide a series of youth tumbling and gymnastics activities for
the toddler and pre-school aged child. All classes are conducted
at Mini-Hops. Visit their website, or call for map and driving
instructions.
Mini-Hops is a non-profit, parent-supported organization
celebrating 35 years of providing an opportunity for children
in our community to participate, learn and enjoy the skills of
gymnastics in a safe, wholesome, family friendly environment. At
the same time, Mini-Hops provides an avenue for gymnasts with
high athletic aspirations to grow in a program where they can
achieve their maximum potential.
The goal of the pre-school gymnastics program at Mini-
Hops is to provide your child with a positive, nurturing, safe
and energetic learning experience. We aim to build strength,
flexibility, endurance and self-confidence while having fun—
giving children a jump on life through gymnastics.
Almost Me (Ages 2 ½ –3 ½ Years): This class introduces the
structure of preschool in very small increments and begins
preparing children for their next steps of independence. A parent
still accompanies their child and continues to use this class as
a special bonding time. At the same time, we help to foster
independence by offering fun and challenging activities the child
can accomplish all by themselves. 40 minutes, Ratio 6:1
Lil Hoppers (Ages 3½ –4 ½ Years): This class is designed for
development of gymnastics, hand-eye coordination, ball-handling
skills, movement to music, and overall fitness, using large and
small motor equipment where students learn and have FUN.
These Lil’ Hoppers learn by achieving skills, which in turn fosters
self-esteem. Developing healthy learning attitudes is vital during
their formative preschool years. 60 minutes, Ratio 6:1
Mini-Hops charges an annual registration fee that will be due
on the first day of class at Mini-Hops. For more details contact
Baseball Clinics
Developmental Baseball Clinics—
Hitting, Fielding and Pitching (Pitching
for baseball only)
Players—here is your opportunity to improve
your skills, gain confidence and have some fun
leading into the spring season. Each of these
4-week clinics focus on specific skill sets: hitting,
pitching, or fielding. Hitting clinics offer an
excellent 5:1 player to instructor ratio, while
pitching and fielding clinics offer a 5:1 ratio of
professional & confidence-building instruction.
It is our experience and belief that a player needs
individual attention to significantly improve,
which empowers a player to have more fun at the
ballpark.
Practice with a purpose – Certified Pine Tar
Academy instructors lead each clinic with a stated
goal to simply stay loose, have fun, and get better
one opportunity at a time. Students are given
ample opportunity to actively engage in the
learning process with the approach that practice
makes permanent…not perfect! Instructors create
a positive learning environment while students
learn the value of hard work, failing productively,
and the importance of focusing in the moment
illustrated in a baseball context. These are
habits that will help players strive for excellence
whether at the ballpark or in the classroom.
This developmental process takes place under
the watchful eye of instructors with extensive
experience playing and coaching at all levels.
The 4-week hitting, fielding and/or pitching
clinics are geared towards players ages 7–13,
while Pine Tar Academy offers other group and
individual activities for players of all ages (please
call or email baseball office for details.) Each
clinic runs 4 consecutive weeks and has a limit
of 10 students, giving players the individual
attention required for improvement. Hitting
& pitching clinics are offered multiple nights/
times as listed below. Clinics are 50 minutes long
with an additional 10 minutes of open batting
cage time (a player favorite) to show off their
developing skills! Register today–clinics fill fast!
Garden Plots
Land has been set aside for residents of Hopkins and Minnetonka for the sole purpose of
the middle of May. Register early as these sites fill quickly! For both cities, plots go on sale March
