General
7906 (MOL M30 / Je) is licensed but disused at the main depot. Low floor buses are not seen as a priority in
Bermuda, and the PTB have no present plans to order any. It should also be born in mind that the Island has a 7’6”
width limit and all low floor buses are wider. On order are 2K101-2K110 more MAN / Bf.
DALIAN TONG DA Bus Co (Speedybus Services (Macau) Ltd)
A further (the last?) report from this home of British double deckers brings with it bad news. Route 401 the home
of these vehicles, was observed on the 1 st March this year with double deckers still in evidence and one single
decker running on service. A quick look at the depot showed no major change, except for an influx of locally built
single deckers. This being said a number had been stored there in the past.
The next day produced an initial surprise with 03, 12 and 21 heading out beyond the Heishi Reef tram terminus
in convoy. This being well off their normal route, our correspondant made haste to the depot. Whilst photographing
the outside of the depot, 07 was positioned near the gate, shortly to be joined by 09 and 17. What appeared to be
all the staff then assembled near the gate. The three buses were then driven off accompanied by much waving of
hands. A lucky encounter with the manager resulted in an invitation to his office. Despite the lack of a common
language he confirmed that the “new” 12 and 21 had come from the Yantai operation, and that the Dalian company
was still controlled by the Speedybus operation. He then confirmed that route 401 was due to be entirely single
deck OPO with farebox operated from 1 st April. In the meantime the single deckers would be filtered into service as
the drivers were trained. As to the double deckers he gave the impression that these were due to be scrapped
starting with the six already mentioned.
So there we have it – or do we ? Was it worth making vehicles fit just to run to a scrapyard just to be scrapped.
Could it be that further use is envisaged somewhere else ? Will we ever know ?
Below is a complete fleet list of the double deckers on the grounds that by all accounts this is probably the last
entry for the British Bus in Dalian.
