This is an intensive two-and-one-half day seminar
for process industry executives, plant managers,
and their direct reports who are responsible for,
or involved in, improving and sustaining Operational
Excellence through continuous improvement.
This seminar provides participants with an
industry perspective on the competitive factors
that are driving continuous improvement and
an understanding of which industry Best Practices
will improve your plant’s performance and
profits while mitigating abnormal situations.
Specific focus will be on the practical application
of proven industry practices in a manner that

Session One
Introduction to Operational Excellence
In this session, we will explore the principles associated with
pursuing Operational Excellence in a manner that drives
sustainable improvements. We will present the KBC Operational
Excellence model and discuss how the different
pieces of the model relate to each other. In addition we will
present the Operational Excellence practice of becoming a
Production-Centered Plant. In a Production-Centered Plant,
the leadership team and all plant functions are aligned to
support achieving safe production on a 24/7 basis. You will
learn about the structure of a production-centered organization
and how integrated cross-functional work systems
are essential to production.

Session Two
Market Drivers
We will explore the characteristics that make the process
industry unique in manufacturing and identify the challenges
common to all plant organizations. We discuss the trends
and influencing factors in the market that are shaping today’s
process industry and driving the tactical and strategic decisions
at the plant level. Also addressed are the local and
global social and market factors that are driving organizational
trends in the industry and how these trends and/or
alternative approaches can be leveraged to support more
effective operations.

Session Three
Organizational Excellence
This session presents the Operational Excellence practices
associated with driving organizational excellence
through aligning the organization with a productioncentered
philosophy. We discuss how to use effective
leadership and management practices to align employee

drive optimal performance. In addition, you will learn the
factors that shape organizational culture and how to influence
those factors to drive the culture changes needed
to sustain the improvements associated with achieving
Operational Excellence.

Session Four
Optimizing Your Core Work Processes
This session will cover the effective methods for optimizing
organizational work processes through which lasting organizational
improvements can be made. In addition, we
focus on the principles and practices associated with optimal
performance against the core work processes that
affect an organization’s production capability. Specifically,
we will investigate the key considerations and factors associated
with Production Excellence, Reliability Excellence,
and Human Performance Excellence. You also learn how to
continuously improve these processes.

This session will present the principles and techniques
associated with effective strategic planning. Utilizing these
techniques, you will be able to develop strategic plans that
drive the achievement of Operational Excellence in any
market environment through the effective and efficient use
of the resources available to your organization. We will
present a method for evaluating your resource capabilities
and availability against the needs dictated by your organization
to develop a coordinated set of tactical plans that are
achievable given your current resource loading.

Session Six
Achieving Operational Excellence
This group break-out session will use real industry case studies to
allow participants to apply the principles, techniques, and
practices presented in this seminar to develop solution strategies
to real world scenarios. Through interactions with other
participants and the instructor, you will learn how to practically
apply the concepts presented in this seminar to your
organization. In addition, by using real world scenarios,
you and your fellow participants will be developing solution
