and pupal skins and genitalia slide, Riviere Froide (west <strong>of</strong> Port-au-Prince),<br />

14 Ott 1924, W. A. H<strong>of</strong>fman (USNM). BIONOMICS: [Larvae probably in tree-<br />

holes, fallen leaves or coconut shells]. Type collection made on a hillside.<br />

2. Uranotaenia cooki Root, 193’7. TYPE: Lectotype Cr represented by a<br />

foreleg, portion <strong>of</strong> tarsus <strong>of</strong> another leg and genitalia, all mounted on a slide,<br />

Port-au-Prince, 11 Feb 1932, S. S. Cook (USNM, 50375; selection <strong>of</strong> Stone<br />

and Knight 1957~: 200). BIONOMICS: Larvae in small pools <strong>of</strong> quiet water on<br />

jutting ledges <strong>of</strong> rock in a ravine, shaded at all times and containing rotting<br />

leaves. Adults on under surface <strong>of</strong> rock ledges.<br />

with much vegetation]. Holotype captured at light.<br />

2. Culex (Mel.) opisthopus Komp, 1926. TYPE: Lectotype d (2177) with<br />

genitalia slide, United Fruit Co. hospital, Puerto Castilla (Colon), Mar 1925,<br />

W. H. W. Komp (USNM; selection <strong>of</strong> Stone and Knight 1957a: 54). BIONOMICS:<br />

[Larvae probably in swamp north <strong>of</strong> hospital]. Adults taken in damp protected<br />

spot on the walls <strong>of</strong> an angle <strong>of</strong> the hospital.
