News from Extension...New Year, New Beginnings
The start of a new year is often a time to reflect on what was good about the past year and to look
forward to changes and improvements in the year to come. New Trier Extension is no exception. For
the spring term we are keeping all our popular classes and adding over two dozen new offerings in
response to current trends, needs among community members and feedback from our participants.
We are seeing renewed health in the real estate market and, with it, more estate sales. People are
buying and selling homes; others are downsizing to condos; still others are facing the need to dispose
of their parents’ estates. If any of these situations applies to you, we have several courses that can
help. Organizing Your Home To Show and Sell will help you de-clutter to show your home to its
best advantage. How Do I Sell My Stuff? is a new class that will teach you what to do with all the
unwanted items from your home or a parent’s house. And the What To Know Before You’re Suddenly
On Your Own and Estate Planning classes will help ensure that you are organized for the future.
Now that the major holidays are over, you may have more time to try things you’ve always wanted
to learn. Whether that’s Beginning Bridge, an artistic endeavor such as Glass, Beading, Painting
or Creative Writing, you’ll find classes that will get you started the right way.
If, like so many of us, you want to begin the new year by getting healthier, there are a host of fitness
classes from Conditioning and Strength Training to Fencing and Rowing to Yoga and T’ai Chi
that will match your needs. And there are two new cooking classes to help: Power Foods and I Can
Eat This and Lose Weight!
No term would be complete without our highly popular day trips. You can join us for Polish Chicago:
Culinary and Cultural Tour. We will be re-visiting Chicago’s Grand Old Synagogues which was
an immediate sellout last fall. We have a new trip to some of the Far North Hidden Gems between
here and the Wisconsin line: Crab Tree Farm, North Shore Distillery and Nielsen-Massey (the vanilla
people). We’ll go even farther north on a Milwaukee Culinary Tour, as well as having A Day of
Antiquity at the Oriental Institute and a special new exhibit at the Field Museum.
We hope you’ll find the continuation of a favorite class or a brand new offering that’s appealing.
If there is a class you’d like to see us offer—or one you’d like to teach—we’d love to discuss the
possibilities.
