n Use the illustrations and descriptions for each exercise as a guide<br />

to make sure you do the right technique. For exercises done in a<br />

standing position, the feet should be shoulder-width apart for good<br />

balance and with the toes pointing slightly outward.<br />

n When using stack weights or a barbell, hold the bar with the<br />

thumbs facing in toward one another unless noted otherwise.<br />

If the bar should be held with the thumbs facing out, this will be<br />

stated in the exercise description.<br />

n Work with a partner. You can spot one another and provide<br />

technique guidance and encouragement. This is especially important<br />

for safety on free-weight exercises like bench press and squats.<br />

n Do not sacrifice proper technique in order to increase the<br />

<strong>training</strong> load.<br />
