Participate!

• Contribute to the community.

• Have a say in what happens.

• Meet new people.

Celebrating 70 years

Thanks to your patronage, our great staff, dedicated

volunteers and Society directors, Kerrisdale is arguably

the busiest community centre in Vancouver. We have over

14,000 members, had more than 550,000 visits, and offer

over 400 programs every season to newborns, centenarians

and everyone in between. We’re more than a recreation

centre because of the variety of programs in arts, education,

health and wellness, sports, martial arts, fitness, and special

events. Our Society-run Fitness Room attracted over 85,000 users with our

drop-in rate of $3.00--half the cost of Park Board-run facilities--and we still

have a surplus. All our earnings go back to you in subsidies, new equipment,

and facility improvement. One example: we subsidize hot lunches six days a

week to an average of 110 fixed-income seniors and provide them a chance

to socialize.

Kerrisdale Community Centre Society and Park Board have jointly run our

Community Centre since the 1940’s. However, the Park Board is determined

to implement a nonnegotiable plan to gut our Joint Operating Agreement,

grab all our revenues to cover Park Board’s chronic budget deficit in the

guise of equity, and make one-size-fits-all community centres. Many of

Kerrisdale’s unique programs, facility improvements, and subsidies will

disappear. Please voice your outrage to Park Board commissioners. Stay

tuned for developments.

Respectfully,

Oscar Bisnar, Kerrisdale Community Centre Society President

Pilates

Based on the exercise philosophy

developed by Joseph Pilates in the

early twentieth century, Pilates will

improve strength, alignment, balance,

coordination, circulation, flexibility and

posture. Working the mind and body

together, Pilates uses subtle, slow and

controlled movements to achieve rapid

and long-lasting results. Emphasis is

placed on using your core, the girdle

like cylinder that surrounds your waist

that flattens the tummy and supports

the back. You will experience a full body

workout with no impact on the joints as

you strengthen and stretch through each

exercise. A powerfully different workout
