DPA Microphones’ new hand held d:facto
vocal microphone made its debut on Chinese
television when it was used extensively during
the production of The Voice of China, based
on the same concept as NBC’s The Voice.
The Chinese show featured four judges/
coaches who used blind auditions
to identify teams of singers they
wanted to work with during the series.
Heading up sound production for the show
was Mr Jin Shao Gang, one of China’s most
important sound engineers. Mr Jin used
two d:facto microphones for the singers
and also specified them for the judges when
they sang with their teams. “The sound
quality was exceptional – clean, natural,
and with splendid high frequency response
and awesome ambient noise restriction,”
said Mr Jin.

Pukkelpop in Belgium, featured eight
stages all powered by Lab.gruppen

consisted of three types of rack,
featuring the fP Series and the flagship
PLM 20000Q. EML’s A rack consists
of two fP6400 and an fP 3400, with
the fP 3400 for the highs and 6400s
for the mids and lows. They also used
a SpekTrix rig with the rack consisting
of three fP200, while the monitor rack
consists of four fP 3400s.

mixing the current UK club tour for

PA company Amber Audio is the first
rental house to take out the board.

Adlib is supplying an L-Acoustics
K1 sound system and delays for the
UK and European leg of Radiohead’s
current world tour. The main hangs
comprise 14 elements of K1 per side
with four KARA downfills, and next
to these is an array of eight flown K1
SB subs per side. The side/outer left
and right hangs are made up from 10
K1 speakers with six KARA downfills,
which can be split into two arrays per
side for larger venues. On the floor are
24 L-Acoustics SB28 subs.

Stockholm’s Bryggarsalen, a former
brewery, has been transformed
into a live venue, with a newly
installed Alcons Audio system. The
acoustically-challenging room has
a high ceiling with tiled walls and
floor, marble stairs, and a tiled wall
facing the stage from a balcony. “From
previous installations, we knew that
the clarity and precision of Alcons
systems helps a huge amount in a
room with as many reflections as this
one,” said installer Electrosound’s
Brollan Soderstrom.

Scottish band Wet Wet Wet recently
re-formed for a one-off show in
Glasgow to mark its 25th anniversary,
appearing on Glasgow Green to a
crowd of 12,000. FOH Engineer
Steve Pattison selected an Allen &
Heath iLive digital mixing system,
comprising an iDR-64 MixRack and
iLive-112 Control Surface with Waves
networking. “With a brass section
and the world of keyboards we hit 56
inputs but the 112 surface allowed me
to see a lot of what was happening,”
said Pattison.

A Martin Audio OmniLine system
has been specified and installed at
Central Railway Station in Sydney,
the largest in Australia, to conquer
a speech intelligibility problem.
Acoustic Directions took on the job,
and installed 120 steered elements
with a special version of the Martin
Audio Display software, operating
under an FIR filtering regime that
addressed every element in the array
with its own processed channel.
