„We consider the Netherlands a growth market and therefore
plan to set up additional railway connections,” says Patrick
Zilles, Head of Intermodal’s business area of TX Logistik. TX
Logistik recently established a new subsidiary in Venlo for this
reason.
The new direct train means significantly extended business for
TX Logistik with respect to activities in the Netherlands and the
cooperation with Har Vaessen B.V. “The decisive factor was TX
Logistik’s flexibility,” says Director Har Vaessen. “Our clients’
goods can now get to Italy faster and at lower costs.” Prior to the
newly established connection, Har Vaessen’s company
transported the goods via motor trucks to Cologne or Herne,
from where they departed south via railway. Har Vaessen B.V.
plans to put another train on the tracks between Venlo and
Melzo by the end of this or the beginning of the next year.
Har Vaessen’s new logistics service offered under the name of
Intermodal Shift provides a solution to avoid road charges in
Germany and Austria, heavy cargo fees in Switzerland and the
Italian road user charges. It’s not even affected by the diesel fuel
price. In Italy trailers and containers are delivered by company
trucks. Each train can transport up to 32 45-feet-long containers.
TX Logistik uses only its own multi-system motor train units.
Extending its railway activities, Har Vaessen also considered
environmental issues. The company is part of the Jan de Rijk
Group that plans to cut its CO2 emissions by 20 percent next
year.

TX Logistik was set up in 1999 as a private railway enterprise, and operates an
efficient European network that extends from Scandinavia all the way down
to Italy. Its transport operations centre on the North-South corridor across the
Alps. Employing some 300 staff, including some 150 engine drivers and
shunters, the company generated an annual turnover of more than 150 million
euros in 2010. Its market share in Germany accounts for two percent. Since
March 2011, TX Logistik has been 100-percent-owned by Trenitalia, a
subsidiary of Italian State Railways.
