These research-based* programs help children 

and adults with special needs master essential

Language defi cits are usually 

associated with impaired reading 

comprehension. This research1 

examined whether 

LanguageLinks would improve 

expressive syntax as well as 

reading comprehension. 

Twenty-six children aged 5-12 

who were Deaf or Hard of 

Hearing and used American 

Sign Language worked with 

LanguageLinks every school day 

for nine weeks. The results: 

• Students signifi cantly improved 

their reading comprehension 

as measured by the CWG2 , 

which tests the ability to comprehend 

15 grammatical structures 

using a task that involves 

matching pictures to written 

sentences. 

• Students’ acquisition of morphosyntax 

as measured by the 

DELV3 was greatly accelerated 

as a consequence of regular 

use of the software.

A Variety of Question Forms

minutes per day, usually 3 times a week. 

• At post-test, scores on the Wh-Question 

elicited production test more than doubled; 

a diff erence that was highly signifi cant. 

• Improvements were evident across a range of initial ability. Some children who 

did not produce Wh-Questions on the pre-test did so after training. Others with 

initially limited production of Wh-Questions expanded their repertoire. 

These results indicate that using QuestionQuest was an eff ective way to provide 

children with the critical language input they needed to improve their abilities to 

understand, ask, and answer questions.

Using our Optimized Intervention technology, Nouns 

& Sounds begins with an assessment to determine which 

sounds a student can’t identify. During training, the student 

is asked to match a sound to a photograph (“Find 

the one that makes this sound… ‘meow’.”). The program 

continually tracks a student’s performance and uses this 

information to guide the learning process. 

Flexibility and control 

You decide whether to train using two or three 

choices, whether to have visual reinforcement on or o , 

and whether to include text. At the end of each session, 

a performance summary is presented, allowing you to 

quickly review progress and ensure accountability.

Nine Instructional Activities 


This activity automatically assesses a student’s knowledge 

of common nouns and their sounds and then delivers highly 

individualized training. Based on a student’s responses, the

Students are asked to match sounds with photographs. You 

can choose any one of the three training levels to accommodate 

individuals who need a xed level of support.
