JetBlue Airways completed an agreement to purchase two bundles of eight slot pairs, one at New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and the second at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), recently made available in an FAA auction. A slot pair provides authorization for one daily arriving flight and one daily departing flight and will allow JetBlue to double its already popular service at both airports in 2012. An A320 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) has been put in place in Venice (Italy) at the SuperJet International’s Training Center. The A320 FFS is an EASA (JAR-FSTD A) fully compliant Synthetic training device. The FFS has been transferred from Alitalia Training Center in Rome to the SuperJet International Training Center in Tessera (Venice), close to the International Marco Polo airport. In February 2012 the simulator will be submitted to the approval of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and training courses will start accordingly. With this acquisition, SuperJet International’s facility in Venice becomes a Flight Training Organization (FTO). Cambridge Airport released that it is one of the first UK airports to introduce the new GPS enabled (APV Baro RNAV Instrument Approach) procedure to supplement its existing SRA/ILS/NDB and modifiable PAPI facilities. The approach has been validated for its principal runways, 23 and 05. Cambridge is now one of the few airports in the UK that can offer the complete spectrum of commercial pilot training capabilities outside of the major London Airports. Working with Inmarsat, Gogo will begin in-flight testing of the Global Xpress aeronautical services after the launch of the first Inmarsat-5 satellite, which is scheduled for mid- 2013. Gogo plans to offer regional service in 2013 with services for air transport, business aviation and government customers expected worldwide later in 2014. ANA and Air Nippon Co. (ANK) announced that, in a decision made at the meetings of their respective Boards of Directors held on November 25, 2011, the companies have decided to merge and signed a merger agreement. In accordance with the ANA Group FY2011-2012 Corporate Strategy, the Company is working to review its Group operating structure. PEOPLE Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, the chair of Italy’s biggest defense company, Finmeccanica is stepping down after nine years. Chief executive officer Giuseppe Orsi was named his successor. Spairliners, a Joint Venture between Air France and Lufthansa Technik, appointed Olivier Mazzucchelli as CEO and managing director. Jacques Bernardi was appointed executive vice-president Component services of Sabena technics Group. Aveos announced that it has tapped seasoned aviation industry leaders – Tim Canavan, Shannon Wagner, Paul Lochab, Mike New and Bob Madigan – to join its executive team. Canavan, senior vice president, Maintenance Operations, has overall responsibility for ensuring the global competitiveness of the airframe business. Wagner, vice president and general manager, Component Solutions, will have overall responsibility for the Component Solutions business unit. Lochab, Aveos’ new chief commercial officer (CCO) will be responsible for all customer-facing activities and for leading the organization’s marketing and sales functions. Delta Air Lines board of directors named David G. DeWalt as its newest member, effective immediately. Delta Air Lines named Tad Hutcheson vice president – Community and Public Affairs, where he will oversee the airline’s global strategy to enhance its leadership position in the communities it serves. Prior to joining Delta, Hutcheson served as vice president of Marketing and Sales for AirTran Airways. Former AMR Corporation Chairman and CEO Gerard J. Arpey is joining the Emerald Creek Group as a partner, effective December 1, 2011. In his new role, Arpey will lead the firm along with Emerald Creek Group founder, Larry Kellner.
