National Scale up Plan for Programmatic Management of DR TB 2011 - 2012
The states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan,
Gujarat, Haryana, Orissa, Punjab and West Bengal have planned DOTS Plus Sites less than their
eligibility based on population norm and hence their plans are expected to evolve over time to meet
this programme guideline.
At the same time, the states of Delhi, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur,
Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand have planned DOTS Plus Sites more than their eligibility based on
population norm; with access difficulties in the North-East and hilly states, additional sites may be
indicated.
8.10. Estimate of National Training needs:
The national scale up plan will pose a huge demand on the national training activities as seen in the
figure below:
Figure 11: Demand for National DOTS Plus Training to meet the scale up plan
CTD has worked out the following strategy to meet these demands:
Developed 4 th National PMDT Training Centre at Trivandrum, Kerala in Dec ‘10
Training batches arranged @ 2 per month with batch size ~ 40 (240 trainees / quarter)
Apart from CTD and National Institutes, trainers from experienced states (DP Site Committee,
STDC, and WHO Consultants) identified as national facilitators.
Developed annual training calendar and monitor progress
PMDT training has sharply accelerated. From December 2010 – May 2011, 9 national training batches
have been arranged where ~ 360 key staffs were trained. The state teams and phase 1 districts of all
remaining preparatory states were trained up to Feb ’10, giving each state a decent 10 months time to
roll out services in 2011 as per the RNTCP vision.
