Brilliance can be defined as the
richness, intensity and depth of
the colour and it is one of the most
important characteristics
to an acrylic artist. By
combining their worldbeating
colour making
experience with the
latest developments in
resin technology Winsor
& Newton have taken
‘brilliance’ to a new
level.
Brilliance does not mean
that the colours are
garish. It is about clarity and purity of
colour and this should be as evident
when the colour is applied straight
from the tube as in the thinnest of
films. Only the purest pigments and
the highest grades are used in the
range with 69 single pigment colours
out of 80.

longer open time makes Artists’

blend their paints on the palette
and canvas.

No Colour Shift from Wet to Dry
Not only are the colours brilliant
when wet but they remain brilliant
when dry – so no colour shift or
darkening of tone. What you see is
what you get.
This is thanks to their expertise in
colour making and resin technology.
A new binder was developed that
is translucent when wet and dries
clear. (Colour shift is due to the
binder changing from white to
transparent as it dries. As the white
emulsion dries within the colour and
becomes clear, the paint becomes
more transparent and therefore
darker.) It is this that ensures no
colour shift resulting in a range that
allows artists to match colours more
easily from palette to canvas and
see a painting as it will actually look
when finished.

Opacity & Covering
Power

Artists’ Acrylic
includes a good
mix of transparent
and opaque colours
offering good levels
of opacity and
covering power. Transparent
colours such as the synthetic
organics (Phthalocyanines and
Quinacridones) give clean colour
mixing, while opaque colours such
as the Cadmiums and earth colours,
offer the greatest
covering power.
Covering power is
how well a paint can
cover previous layers
or how far it spreads
on the canvas.

are new formulations,
giving the brightest and
strongest colours. The
range also includes 17
exciting new colours,
further increasing the number of
unique pigments available to acrylic
painters. Winsor & Newton research
chemists have spent the last few
years investigating every possible
pigment and its potential for acrylic
painters - No other range has this
number of unique pigments.
All 80 colours are available in 60ml
tubes, and Titanium White is also
available in a larger 200ml tube.
