How easy is it to find parking? How much is it? Are the lots safe? PARKING http://srs.humber.ca North: D133 | Lakeshore: A118 More and more students are choosing to drive to Humber each year. If your son or daughter wishes to park in campus lots, he or she must apply for a spot as early as possible. • Rates vary depending on location • For occasional use, students may prefer Pay-Per-Entry Parking ($7 coin or credit card) 18 Safety All lots are patrolled regularly by our security staff. As well, emergency telephones are located throughout the lots, and our Campus Walk Program is available for those who wish to be walked to their car in the evening. If there is car trouble, our HEART (Humber Emergency Auto Response Team) staff will be there in minutes.
Where can my son or daughter go for help with an academic course? How can they brush up on their study skills? Where can they go to find a volunteer opportunity? PEER PROGRAMS – PEER TUTORING North: H217 Lakeshore: H201 (Peer Tutoring) Peer Tutoring Peer tutoring is a service available to students who need help with an academic course. Students can meet with a tutor on a one-to-one basis, or they can visit one of the learning centres for assistance with writing or math. Students can sign up to be tutored in up to 2 courses a semester, for a small fee of $10 for 8 hours of tutoring. Also offered are the Learning Skills Workshops. Students can attend by dropping in to one of the many workshops offered over the course of the semester. Workshops are 50 minutes in length and cover topics ranging from Time Management, Exam Prep, Group Work and Presentation Skills. Visit our website for more details. www.humber.ca/peertutoring Peer Mentoring Peer Mentors are upper year students who volunteer to meet with new students on campus. Peer Mentors help new students transition to campus life and postsecondary expectations. www. humber.ca/peermentoring Volunteering Humber offers many service learning opportunities for students to get involved and volunteer on campus or in the community. Students can volunteer to be orientation leaders, or work with local youth. Also offered is an Alternative Spring Break program that encourages students to spend their reading week in February volunteering abroad. Past trips have included: Mississippi with Habitat for Humanity, and the Dominican Republic with Orphanage Outreach. www.humber.ca/getinvolved 19
