Günter Gloser Minister of State for European Affairs Patron of the 11th annual youth meeting Only 20 years ago, when most of the young supporters of FACE were not even born, it would have been beyond imagination to organize a meeting of young Europeans from all parts of the continent. Today this exciting experience has become almost normal for the younger generation - without barriers, without greater obstacles and in most parts of Europe even without border control. I would therefore like to express my sincere gratitude for the work of all participants, supporters and sponsors of FACE. This network provides a great opportunity for young people to find out about the cultural diversity of the continent and to appreciate it – even though they never experienced the division of Europe during the Cold War. These young people meet the challenge of completing the European Unification. A challenge their grandparents had already been faced with. And they seize this opportunity to meet, to exchange views and to be active together to make Europe a vivid experience. But in some parts of Europe young people still have to wait for this opportunity. For most countries of the Western Balkans visas will be abolished by January 2010. But people in Bosnia, Kosovo or Albania still need a visa to travel outside their own countries. And for the citizens of Belarus, the freedom of movement is strictly limited by a non-democratic government. There are still challenges to be faced and there is a common mission to be accomplished by all Europeans: To bring freedom to everybody, to practise mutual respect and to live in peace with each other. Therefore I would like to encourage you to continue with your commitment and to face these challenges in unity!
