SENIOR HEALTH & WELLNESS EXPO HELD
On Tuesday, May 1,
the Alabaster Parks and
Recreation Department
hosted its second-annual
Senior Health and Wellness
Expo at the Alabaster
Senior Center. The event
featured some 25 healthrelated
vendors and drew a
number of senior adults
from all around the area.
“It was good,” said
Alicia Walters, the senior
activities manager with the
Parks and Recreation
Department. “We had a
great turnout.”
Baptist Health System
was the primary sponsor
for the event, and it provided
a number of onsite tests
for blood pressure, cholesterol,
and body mass index.
“We were very appreciative
of them for doing all
of the screenings, as well as
for all the other vendors,”
said Walters.
Some of the other vendors
included RSVP,
Harrison Regional Library,
Juice Plus, Cahaba
Wellness, Brooklere
Pharmacy, and MASH,
which sells medical equipment.
The event was organized
with various stations
throughout the Senior
Center and a special colon
exhibit displayed in the
back.
“We had vendors set
up throughout the building,
as well as a large
colon exhibit that they
could walk through outside
and learn more about
colon cancer,” said
Walters.
Walters said she was
very pleased with the
event’s success, which is
now in its second year.
“This was our secondannual
event,” said
Walters. “We have a great

senior adults.”
According to Walters,
the event attracted a number
of new faces to the
center as well.
“That was exciting. We
had large representation
from our current existing
senior members, but we
also had some new folks
from out in the community,”
she said.
