Many important connections between Brazilian and African cultures were made<br />

through the slave trade. The impact of the slave presence on Brazilian music can be<br />

assessed by the fact that the number of black Africans transported to Brazil during 350<br />

years of slavery has been estimated between 3.6 and 5 million.<br />
