Hispanic. Currently, Hispanics make up more than 38 percent
of California's population and more than 27 percent of
Nevada's population. With one out of two Hispanics being
unbanked or underserved, these demographics point to a
market opportunity for credit unions. Join us as we discuss
the economic and demographic fi ndings of Coopera's
Hispanic Opportunity Report for California and Nevada, and
unique growth opportunities for credit unions. In addition,
we will highlight a few case studies of Hispanic outreach

In today's challenging business environment, there are risks
that, unless successfully managed, will impact your credit
union's ability to provide excellent service. In addition, the
National Credit Union Association (NCUA) has indicated it will
increase its emphasis on risk management. Harrington will
explore ways for identify, analyze, respond to, and monitor risks.
Also, he will provide an overview of Enterprise Risk Management
(ERS) while emphasizing credit and especially interest-rate
risk and systems to monitor them.
A Brave New World: Australia's
Credit Union 'Banks'

Like credit unions everywhere, Australia's credit unions are challenged
by differentiating themselves from banks while raising
consumer awareness. Petschler, CEO of Abacus (which represents
credit unions and other mutual organizations in Australia), will
speak about recent developments in her country, where credit
unions are legislated and regulated under the same rules as
banks. Petschler will discuss the "even playing fi eld" environment,
public perceptions of credit unions and mutuals vs. banks,
why some credit unions and building societies have changed their
names to banks, and how Abacus keeps the various "credit union
cousins" together under the umbrella of "mutuals."
