Pinewood Builders Challenge
October 30–November 1, HRIA Booth and Auction on eBay
Each year, some of the nation’s best
hot-rod and custom-car builders compete
in the HRIA Pinewood Challenge.
Builders are given a block of wood,
four months and very few limitations
(the car must fit the track’s dimensions
and no propulsion systems were
allowed), and they then create their
own one-of-a-kind pinewood race cars.
These miniature hot rods are actually
raced at the annual SEMA Pinewood
Drag Races in California (the car built
by Derek White of Street Vizions won
that race this year); however, the true
value of these cars is the creativity and
craftsmanship that go into their design
and build.
Participating builders included
industry luminaries Baer Brakes, B Rod
or Custom, BS Industries, Bubba’s East
Coast Rods & Customs, Goodguys
Rod & Custom Association, Goolsby
Customs, Greening Auto Co., Johnny’s
Auto Trim, Kaucher Kustoms, Lokar
Inc., No Joke Upholstery, Rich Evans
Designs, Spanky’s Hot Rods, Strange
Motion and Street Vizions.
Aftermarket
Foundation
Launches
New Website
Established 52 years ago, the Aftermarket
Foundation has helped countless
members of the automotive aftermarket
who, because of a catastrophic illness or
terrible accident, have fallen on hard
times with no place to turn. Recently,
the foundation launched a new website,
www.aftermarketfoundation.org.
“When we receive a case, we vet
it completely, ascertain the problem,
make certain that all government
agencies have been tried and then we
attempt to help make up the monthly
shortfall,” said Joe Mittelman, Aftermarket
Foundation vice president.
Comments left on the website are
not only from Foundation recipients,
but also board members, headed
by Chairman Don Schlenger and
President Bob Hirsch. All 29 board
members are major players in the
automotive aftermarket and represent
many of the major aftermarket
corporations and trade associations,
including SEMA. A list of supporting
donors is displayed on the website,
www.aftermarketfoundation.org.
