Real estate transfer tax<br />
Real estate transfer tax is levied on all real restate transactions,<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g the transfer of real estate <strong>in</strong> connection with the formation of<br />
a company. Real estate transfer tax also accrues if all shares of a<br />
company own<strong>in</strong>g real estate are united or taken over by a s<strong>in</strong>gle<br />
shareholder. The tax amounts to 3,5% of the purchase price or 2%,<br />
respectively when transferr<strong>in</strong>g real estate between close relatives.<br />
Pay-roll taxes<br />
<strong>Austria</strong> levies pay-roll taxes on the gross salaries and wages paid by<br />
an employer. The rates are approx. 8% but vary slightly among the<br />
n<strong>in</strong>e states. The tax is also be levied on certa<strong>in</strong> fr<strong>in</strong>ge benefits<br />
provided to employees.<br />
Miscellaneous taxes<br />
<strong>Austria</strong> levies a number of other taxes. The most notable ones are<br />

• <strong>Austria</strong> levies taxes on natural gas, electricity, coal and<br />
petroleum.<br />
• The first registration of a car <strong>in</strong> <strong>Austria</strong> attracts a duty based on<br />
the purchase price and depend<strong>in</strong>g on the standard fuel<br />
consumption of the car and can be as high as 16%.<br />
• Insurance premiums are subject to <strong>in</strong>surance tax at rates<br />
between 1% and 11%.<br />
• Advertis<strong>in</strong>g tax amounts to 5% and is levied on ads periodically<br />
taken out <strong>in</strong> all different types of media.<br />
