The delightful county of Kent is<br />

blessed with charming English<br />

countryside and is within easy reach<br />

for this short break. We feature a<br />

visit to ‘The most beautiful castle<br />

in the world’ – as Leeds Castle is<br />

known, Hever Castle with its Tudor<br />

connections, and Dover Castle with<br />

its colourful and turbulent history.<br />

A famous narrow gauge railway<br />

and the Battle of Britain museum<br />

complete the tour.<br />

Monday We depart from our local area in the<br />

morning travelling east to Kent. This afternoon we<br />

visit Hever Castle, former childhood home of Anne<br />

Boleyn. The story of the Tudors at Hever is depicted<br />

in the many portraits around the castle. From here<br />

we make our way to our hotel for the next 4 nights<br />

stay with dinner, bed and breakfast.<br />

Tuesday Today we visit historic Canterbury, with<br />

its famous Cathedral. The town centre is very<br />

compact and is best explored on foot or by horse<br />

drawn carriage. We have a chance to obtain lunch<br />

here and this afternoon we visit Leeds Castle<br />

set on two islands on the River Len and home to<br />

generations of Lords and Ladies for over 1000<br />

years. We are transported through around 900<br />

years of the castle’s history a sumptuous mix of<br />

period architecture, impressive interiors and family<br />

treasures.<br />

Wednesday We begin with a drive to Hawkinge,<br />

not far from Folkestone. Here we visit the Kent<br />

Battle of Britain Museum, a superb collection of<br />

Battle of Briatin artefacts, with aircraft, vehicles,<br />

weapons, prints, relics and much more. From here<br />

we make our way into the coastal town of Hythe<br />

where we join the world famous Romney Hythe<br />

and Dymchurch narrow gauge railway for a ride<br />

along the coast to New Romney. Afterwards<br />

we take a break in delightful Tenterden before<br />

returning through the picturesque countryside.<br />

Thursday This morning we travel to Dover to visit<br />

the most iconic of all English fortresses. Dover<br />

castle has commanded the gateway to the realm<br />

for nine centuries. We explore the many different<br />

layers of Dover Castle’s colourful and turbulent<br />

history. We see the medieval defence systems and<br />

have a tour of the Secret Wartime Tunnels used as<br />

a strategic stronghold during WWII. The tour also<br />

features the Underground Hospital.<br />

Friday after breakfast we leave and make our way<br />

home.<br />

The County of Lincolnshire is an<br />

inspiring holiday destination and<br />

offers much variety for the visitor,<br />

from beautiful unspoilt countryside<br />

and thriving market towns to the<br />

historic charm and heritage of the<br />

City of Lincoln itself.<br />

Dominated by the magnificent<br />

Cathedral and the surrounding<br />

narrow streets and alleyways of the<br />

old town, there is a marked contrast<br />

with the bustling Brayford Pool.<br />

Our tour features the stunning Belton<br />

House and the old town of Stamford.<br />

Monday We depart from our local area in the<br />

morning and travel to Lincolnshire arriving late<br />

afternoon at Olde Barn Hotel for the next 4 nights<br />

stay with dinner, bed and breakfast<br />

Tuesday We drive to the historic City of Lincoln<br />

with its magnificent Cathedral, and next to it<br />

the Norman Castle. First we meet our guide for<br />

a familiarisation tour of the city on the coach,<br />

and later in the day we enjoy a guided tour of<br />

the Cathedral. The old town is a labyrinth of little<br />

alleyways and interesting shops to explore - there<br />

are plenty of tea rooms to keep you going.<br />

Wednesday Our day begins with a drive to<br />

Hansen’s Chocolate House at Folkingham. Here<br />

we see the master chocolatier making delicious<br />

treats, followed by the master discussing the history<br />

of chocolate and the art of chocolate making,<br />

followed by tea/coffee and cakes. This afternoon<br />

we visit Belton House, near Grantham which is the<br />

perfect English country house, set in its own deer<br />

park, Belton was built in the 17th century and offers<br />

delightful gardens, orangery and lakeside walks.<br />

The house featured in BBC’s TV adaptation of Pride<br />

and Prejudice, starring Colin Firth.<br />

Thursday This morning we call at Stamford Garden<br />

Centre, Casterton, where you can enjoy a coffee in<br />

the Country Kitchen and browse around before we<br />

make our way to the beautiful town of Stamford.<br />

Stamford is packed full of art and craft shops and<br />

after lunch we have time to discover the town.<br />

This afternoon we visit Woolsthorpe Manor, with<br />

the famous apple tree, and birthplace of Sir Isaac<br />

Newton, who made most of his discoveries here<br />

about light and gravity.<br />

Friday After breakfast we leave and begin our<br />

journey home.<br />
