The sheer beauty the Lake District
has inspired poets and artists for
centuries, and on this holiday we
will paint a picture that will last in
your memory for years to come.
From our base we can explore the
dramatic landscapes of the Lakes
on this unique holiday. One of our
excursions is taken in mini buses
which reach the parts where others
can not go!
Monday we depart from our local area in the
morning travelling to Cumbria and Shap Wells
Hotel for the next 4 nights stay with dinner, bed
and breakfast.
Tuesday This morning we head first for Ambleside
where we join the comfortable services of
Mountain Goat. A fleet of mini coaches takes us
first to Wray Castle for a brief stop before arriving
at Hill Top. This 17th century farmhouse was
where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her children’s
stories and it remains exactly as she left it. From
here we move on to the little village of Hawkshead
where we take a break. This afternoon we halt
a while at beautiful Tarn Hows before we make
for Coniston Water where we enjoy a cruise on
board the ‘Gondola’. The boat now in the care
of the National Trust, has opulently upholstered
saloons providing a perfect place from which to
enjoy Coniston’s spectacular scenery. We return to
Ambleside through the Yewdale Valley.

5 DAYS
Wednesday Our day begins with a ride over the
rugged Shap Fells to Tebay and Kendal, continuing
to Bowness-on-Windermere. Here we spend the
morning with a chance to look around the town
and shops, maybe visit the World of Beatrix Potter
Exhibition. This afternoon we enjoy a delightful
sail along Lake Windermere to Lakeside, at the
southern end of the lake. Here we join the Lakeside
and Haverthwaite Railway for a nostalgic steam
train ride to Haverthwaite.
Thursday Today we make our way to Ullswater
and Pooley Bridge, where we sail on board the
lake ‘steamer’ across the water to Glenridding.
We continue to Keswick where you have some
free time. We return alongside picturesque
Bassenthwaite Lake to Caldbeck and through
pleasant Cumbria countryside.
Friday After breakfast we leave and begin our
homeward journey.

The Shap Wells Hotel is set in tranquil
surroundings amongst the Lakeland fells and is
an ideal base from which to explore this beautiful
corner of England. Set in 30 acres of grounds, the
hotel offers well stocked bar, lounges and spacious

introduction. We feature a variety
of interesting excursions, in particular
a fantastic ‘Mountain Goat’ tour
taken in small coaches which reach
the parts where others can not go!
Monday We depart from our local area in the
morning arriving late afternoon at Riverside Hotel
for the next 4 nights stay with dinner, bed and
breakfast.
Tuesday Today we drive to Bowness, delightfully
located on the shores of Lake Windermere. We
have time to look around and you have opportunity
to visit ‘The World of Beatrix Potter’, a delightful
discovery of childhood memories. Later we go
to Bowness Pier and catch the ‘steamer’ for the
relaxing sail to the southern tip of the lake at
Lakeside
Wednesday Enjoy a leisurely morning exploring
Kendal, with its variety of shops and cafes,
before we leave and drive around the top of Lake
Windermere on the way to Hawkshead in time
for lunch. This popular little village has lots of
interest, with little alleyways and interesting shops
to explore. Later we continue through Coniston,
with its associations with Donald Campbell,
to the ancient village of Cartmel, famous for
the 12th Century Cartmel Priory. From here we
return to Kendal, enjoying sweeping views across
Morecambe Bay.
Thursday ‘High Adventure’! The ‘Mountain Goat’
minibuses take us where large coaches cannot go.
This is a wonderful day, taking in the mountain
passes of the Western Fells – Wrynose Pass, the
desolate Duddon Valley, awesome Hardknott Pass.
See the lonely Roman Fort as we descend into
Eskdale for a ride on L’al Ratty – The Ravenglass
and Eskdake Miniature Railway, before seeing
Wastwater, Britain’s favourite view. Our return
takes us over Cold Fell, alongside Loweswater,
through the Lorton Valley and over Whinlatter Pass
for a break at the Visitor Centre, continuing past
Thirlmere, Grasmere and Rydal Water to Bowness
where we rejoin our coach to Kendal.
Friday After breakfast we leave and begin our
journey home.
