Program Overview
Trauma Informed Services and Supports:
Environment to Practice
Creation of trauma informed systems and supports has become a national social change movement and a mental
health systems change priority. Trauma-informed means providers have considered the impact of trauma on people’s
lives and work to engage and support individuals recognizing its impact. For mental health and substance abuse
service users the high correlation between trauma and these conditions is well documented. This institute will provide
an overview of the impact of trauma, information about what is helpful from survivors’ and providers’ perspectives,
strategies to create environments and practices that are trauma informed, and tools to assist in the process. Survivors,
providers, family members and community supporters are all welcome to attend.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1) Express the centrality of trauma and its impact on people’s
lives; 2) Identify the principles of trauma informed services and supports; 3) Describe the skills necessary to change
relationships, approaches, and environments within ACT to become more trauma informed.
