In May of 2005 upon much prayer and reflection, Corpus Christi Parish embarked upon a process of growth and development of Strengthening God’s Kingdom Anniversary Edition The creation of this pastoral plan was a major step for Corpus Christi that identified specific areas and challenges to be addressed. Over 200 of our parishioners had input into the creation of this plan. Many dedicated individuals have been working hard to begin the implementation of solutions to the challenges presented. This began in the spring of 2006. Please take note below all the wonderful accomplishments so far. The process is strong and continuing and always in need of additional support from any parishioner. We are Corpus Christi, the Body of Christ, and we are Strengthening God’s Kingdom. As this our 1st Anniversary of Strengthening God’s Kingdom, how blessed we are with such results! Adult Education Adult Education Update • Reviewed four scripture study courses and selected The Great Adventure Bible Timeline program. Program will begin fall of 2007. • Decided upon a program, Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP), a process which hopefully will appeal to all parishioners to grow in their faith and relationship with Jesus. Start-up date in the fall of 2007. • Integrating our programs under an umbrella of Faith Formation with other PIT committees such as Religious Education and Youth and Young Adult. This will assist in building programs that provide continuity in all areas of catechesis in the parish • Dialogue with other parishes in the area to discuss the possibility of sharing information, resources, etc. Buildings and Grounds Buildings and Grounds Update • Have completed a survey of space needs at Corpus Christi and tallied results. • Currently gauging the level of financial participation parishioners are willing to commit to any expansion or improvement effort, and selected a company to conduct a feasibility study. • Have contacted the diocese to work out what funding and sources are available for any project. • Currently touring other parishes to see their renovations and additions to learn from their experiences. • Will begin work on improving the traffic flow of the parking lot. continued next page
Communications Communications update • Have met with many companies about signage for our parish that would be an active site for updating events within our parish. Have selected a company and the next step falls into buildings and grounds. • Beginning the work on other challenges to build a communication network within our community and different methods to promote Corpus Christi within our community. Involvement of People Involvement of People Update • Have updated and improved our Corpus Christi Welcome Packet. This is a folder filled with materials about our church and our ministries that is given to newcomers who register with the church. Made it very user-friendly and filled it with useful information to help new parishioners become involved in our church community and its ministries. • Currently in the process of gathering information in our Corpus Christi parishioner database. Especially focused on improving our information on parishioner occupations, and on everyone’s skills, hobbies and interests. With this kind of up-to-date information, especially the skills and interests of church members, we will develop future programs and ministries that will address people’s needs and interests. Liturgy and Music Liturgy and Music Update • In the process of developing a survey to determine the interests of the parishioners on various aspects of liturgy, music, and environment. • This process will address many of the challenges presented to our committee. Religious Education Religious Education Update • Have partnered with the Faith Formation Commission to reach out to parents and seek their input to better help the parents with the faith formation of their children. • Have also partnered with the Faith Formation Commission to develop the Parent Workshops to address the needs/problems that the parents identified. • Have implemented “Ask the Pastor” to provide the parish another avenue to further their religious education, and have some of their faith questions answered. • Have received approval of, and are in the process of implementing the Catechist Mentoring Program to assist the catechists and RE Staff in improving the coordination, consistency, and quality of the RE Program at each grade level. continued next page
