diet and the benefits of eating proper foods. Our spiritual
development also requires nourishment. There are many
resources available to us: the Scriptures, spiritual books,
people experienced in the spiritual life, and the Eucharist.
Do you take time to nourish your spirit? Do you value
the gift of the Eucharist? Consider your spiritual “diet”
and how you might improve it.
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup,
you proclaim the death of the Lord until he comes.

“Give them some food
yourselves.” We live in the
richest country in the world
yet right here in the United
States there are children who
go to bed hungry every night
and adults who live on the
scraps they find in
dumpsters. “Give them
some food yourselves.”
I wrote a story once about a
woman who sits, knees
pulled up to her chest, on a
bridge in downtown
Chicago. Thin and spindly as
a spider every morning she
sits there, her outstretched
claw of a hand holding a
grimy paper coffee cup into
which passersby drop their
change. Nearby churches sell
$1 coupons that can be
cashed for food at area fastfood
restaurants. I was one
of the people who stuffed
coupons into her cup until
one morning she pulled her
cup away. “No!” Surprised
and angry I put the coupon
back into my purse and
continued on my way to
work. “No!” With that one
word the woman on the
bridge took back what had
been taken from her - the one
thing for which she was
hungry - the right to decide
whether or not to accept my

charity. “No!” “Give them
some food yourselves.”
Hunger comes in many
forms. The woman on the
bridge hungers for power
over her own life, for respect
and the dignity that every
human person deserves.
Some hunger for a safe place
to live; some for an education
or a job that pays a living
wage. Some hunger for
warm clothes for their
children; some for a place
where their disabilities will
not separate them from the
people around them. Some
hunger for a clean bed; some
for a hot shower. Some
hunger for solitude; some for
company. “Give them some
food yourselves.”
Five thousand hungry men.
The Twelve wanted to send
them away, convinced they
had nothing to give; but Jesus
knew that his friends had all
they needed to feed the
multitude and “they all ate
and were satisfied.” Look
around. What hungers do
you see? What do you have
to give? How do you
respond when Jesus says to
you, “Give them some food
yourselves”?

Congratulations to the winners who won the $2,500 Reverse Raffle
Grand Prize at Louie’s Last Chance Lounge Event on May 19,
2007.
Reverse Raffle Results
The numbers are in from Lend-A-Hand’s First Annual
Reverse Raffle. With many thanks to parishioners and
friends, $6,700 was raised at Louie’s Last Chance Lounge. A
wonderful night was enjoyed by all for a good cause. A total
of $8,000 will be sent to St. John the Evangelist Church in
Gulfport, Mississippi, for continuing repairs due to
Hurricane Katrina.
Also we want to thank all those who contributed and
participated in the Walk-A-Thon and for the generosity of
the Knights of Columbus who contributed proceeds of the
Rocktoberfest to the Lend-a-Hand Ministry / St. John the
Evangelist Parish in Gulfport, MS.

L.O.S.S. Support Group
(Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide)
Through the collaboration of Catholic Charities (the
Archdiocese of Chicago and the Diocese of Joliet),
support groups are in place for anyone who has lost a
relative or friend to suicide. A trained facilitator and a
mental health professional assist these groups. The
groups meet from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on either the third
Wednesday or the fourth Tuesday of the month. For more

In May of 2005 upon much prayer and reflection,
Corpus Christi Parish embarked upon a process of growth and development of
Strengthening God’s Kingdom
Anniversary Edition
The creation of this pastoral plan was a major
step for Corpus Christi that identified specific
areas and challenges to be addressed. Over
200 of our parishioners had input into the
creation of this plan. Many dedicated
individuals have been working hard to begin
the implementation of solutions to the
challenges presented. This began in the
spring of 2006. Please take note below all the
wonderful accomplishments so far. The
process is strong and continuing and always
in need of additional support from any parishioner. We are Corpus Christi, the Body of
Christ, and we are Strengthening God’s Kingdom. As this our 1st Anniversary of
Strengthening God’s Kingdom, how blessed we are with such results!
Adult Education
Adult Education Update
• Reviewed four scripture study courses and selected The Great Adventure Bible Timeline program.
Program will begin fall of 2007.
• Decided upon a program, Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP), a process which hopefully will appeal to all
parishioners to grow in their faith and relationship with Jesus. Start-up date in the fall of 2007.
• Integrating our programs under an umbrella of Faith Formation with other PIT committees such as
Religious Education and Youth and Young Adult. This will assist in building programs that provide
continuity in all areas of catechesis in the parish
• Dialogue with other parishes in the area to discuss the possibility of sharing information, resources, etc.
Buildings and Grounds
Buildings and Grounds Update
• Have completed a survey of space needs at Corpus Christi and tallied results.
• Currently gauging the level of financial participation parishioners are willing to commit to any expansion
or improvement effort, and selected a company to conduct a feasibility study.
• Have contacted the diocese to work out what funding and sources are available for any project.
• Currently touring other parishes to see their renovations and additions to learn from their experiences.
• Will begin work on improving the traffic flow of the parking lot.

• Have met with many companies about signage for our
parish that would be an active site for updating events
within our parish. Have selected a company and the
next step falls into buildings and grounds.
• Beginning the work on other challenges to build a
communication network within our community and
different methods to promote Corpus Christi within
our community.
Involvement of People
Involvement of People Update
• Have updated and improved our Corpus Christi Welcome Packet. This is a folder filled with materials
about our church and our ministries that is given to newcomers who register with the church. Made it
very user-friendly and filled it with useful information to help new parishioners become involved in
our church community and its ministries.
• Currently in the process of gathering information in our Corpus Christi parishioner database. Especially
focused on improving our information on parishioner occupations, and on everyone’s skills, hobbies and
interests. With this kind of up-to-date information, especially the skills and interests of church members,
we will develop future programs and ministries that will address people’s needs and interests.
Liturgy and Music
Liturgy and Music Update
• In the process of developing a survey to determine the interests of the parishioners on various aspects of
liturgy, music, and environment.
• This process will address many of the challenges presented to our committee.
Religious Education
Religious Education Update
• Have partnered with the Faith Formation Commission to reach out to parents and seek their input to
better help the parents with the faith formation of their children.
• Have also partnered with the Faith Formation Commission to develop the Parent Workshops to address
the needs/problems that the parents identified.
• Have implemented “Ask the Pastor” to provide the parish another avenue to further their religious
education, and have some of their faith questions answered.
• Have received approval of, and are in the process of implementing the Catechist Mentoring Program to
assist the catechists and RE Staff in improving the coordination, consistency, and quality of the RE
Program at each grade level.

Youth and Young Adult Update
• Working on creating an organization that involves the youth of the parish, increase their numbers and
keeps the program exciting and evolving.
• Are currently addressing strategies:
• Youth Mass
• Identify youth interest and research “best practices”
• Establish a youth council
• Develop social/action oriented programs
• Activities religious/non religious
• We have visited and surveyed youth ministry programs at various other parishes and identified best
practices.
• Currently working on a PEER Ministry Team proposal, which would include all high school
students.

A People’s Peace Initiative
At our summer gathering this year we will be joining
with Catholics from around the country in participating
an a six hour small group process in read the signs of the
times and identify the challenges of peace in this new
century. This national process includes 21 different
Catholic institutions including many Catholic
Communities of Color.
We will complete the 3-session process on this one
day and will talk about coming together with Catholic
Communities of Color in our area to share insights and
reflections on the meaning of peace in our times.
Costs: We are asking for a $10 donation for the day (not
required). The process books are $5.00 each and lunch is
$5.00

Couples are invited to attend a Worldwide Marriage Encounter
weekend for a greater depth, growth, and enrichment in their
marriage. It is an opportunity for parents to get away from jobs, kids,

North American Conference
of Separated and Divorced Catholics
Catholic Divorced Ministry of The North American Conference of Separated and
Divorced Catholics will hold its 33 rd annual international conference at the University of
Notre Dame. This year’s conference is entitled, Water in the Desert. Keynote speakers
include Kathy Brewer Gorham and Bill Dyer. Persons who have experienced
separation, divorce, or the loss of a relationship, and those who minister to them, will
find new insights and resources, as well as spiritual and emotional support for the

An Introduction to the New Testament
The Institute of Pastoral Studies (IPS) at Loyola University is offering a fall course at
St. Petronille Parish in Glen Ellyn on Christian Origins - An Introduction to the New

Little Peoples’ Church
Little Peoples’ Church will be offered
again this summer for children ages
3-6. Little Peoples’ Church is held on
Sundays during the 9am and 11am
Masses. Volunteers are needed to
facilitate – lesson plans are
provided! This program would not exist without our

Corpus Christian Camp
Although it may seem far away, summer will be here before we
know it! That means that it will be Corpus Christian Camp
time! Mark your calendars – Camp is scheduled for
July 16th– 20th.
This year’s theme is “Take the Plunge with Jesus.” The
registration form will be available online on June 11th and in
the bulletin. A meeting for all adult camp volunteers will be
held on Thursday, June 21st at 10:00 a.m. in Marian Hall.

Camp WOW

Youth Leadership Conference

participate in the Joliet Diocese Youth Leadership
Conference July 20 - 22 at Lewis University in
Romeoville. The cost is $175.00. Permission forms will be

Vocations Workshop
7th and 8th graders will attend a workshop on vocations
February 21st 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. at Corpus Christi. Bishop
Sartain will give one of the keynote talks of the

DTS is a Catholic youth ministry for
high school teens. Teens meet at

Sacraments
Sacrament of Baptism - Baptisms take place on the first full
weekend of the month during the weekend Liturgies except
during Advent and Lent. Parents are expected to attend
“Welcome Your Child” baptismal preparation workshop on the
second and third Sunday of every other month. We encourage
expectant parents to make baptismal arrangements six months in
advance in order to best accommodate everyone involved.
Sacrament of Reconciliation - Corpus Christi welcomes you to
partake in the Sacrament of Reconciliation either by attending on
Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. in the Church, or by making
an appointment by contacting the Parish House Office at 630-483-
4673. Communal Reconciliation is celebrated seasonally at
Christmas and Easter.
Sacrament of Marriage - Couples considering marriage are
required to personally contact the Parish House Office six months
before planning a wedding date. Either the bride, groom, or their
parents must be registered parishioners for at least six months
before calling to set a date. As part of the marriage preparation,
couples will attend an Engaged Encounter Weekend prior to the
wedding.
Pastoral Life
Adult Faith Inquiries (RCIA) - Anyone considering becoming a
Catholic, or would like more information about the Catholic
faith, please contact the Parish House Office.
Communion Calls - Communion for shut-ins is available.
Please call Deacon Tom at the Parish House Office to make
arrangements.
Parish Registration and Office Hours
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all newcomers
and visitors. We invite you to come to the Parish House
Office to register during our office hours which are:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Wednesdays we are available from:
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
in order to support those parishioners who work full-time.
Parish Offices are closed on Saturday and Sunday.
Parish Staff Meetings...
...are held every other Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. The parish
staff will be available on those days from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.;
and from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
