Are you ready for some football?<br />

Not to be outdone, the boys’ sports teams also posted<br />

a number of achievements. The football team recorded<br />

its most wins in several years. Linebacker Joey<br />

Grosso (University of Pennsylvania) was named<br />

first-team All-State in Class 1A. Joey and two teammates<br />

are now playing football on the collegiate level:<br />

James Talerico (Yale University) and Mackenzie<br />

Mulligan (Sacred Heart University).<br />

In boys’ basketball, Troy Lieb (Averett University)<br />

was named first-team All County as he averaged<br />

nearly 24 points per game.<br />

In tennis action, both the boys’ and girls’ teams posted<br />

winning records. The boys took second place honors<br />

among the eight teams competing at District. The<br />

girls’ placed fourth among the eight schools.<br />

District Championship trophy in girls' lacrosse.<br />

Boys’ lacrosse posted a record of 13-5 as they advanced to the<br />

district championship game. Clay Noell signed to play lacrosse<br />

at Salisbury University. Meanwhile, Andrew Bolger was<br />

nationally recognized as he received the “Exemplary Coaching<br />

Award” at the US Lacrosse National Convention in Baltimore.<br />

At <strong>Pope</strong>’s Athletic Awards night, Jill Anderson (cross country)<br />

and Jeff Atkins (girls’ lacrosse) were awarded “Coach of the<br />

Year” honors. Troy Lieb was named “Male Athlete of the Year”<br />

and Katie Capobianco “Female Athlete of the Year”.<br />
