Sharing the Legacy through
Conservation and Education
Over 30,000 children attended annual
education programs and thousands more
visited the Zoo for class field trips.
What’s New?
We have added a new Conservation Education
Animal Ambassador cart on honeybees. It
complements the observational beehive that is
in the Discovery Center, and is maintained by
the Dane County Beekeepers Association.
Zoo Summer School
Once again, we were filled to capacity within
the first few weeks of advertising the classes...
300+ children paid to get “up close and
personal” with your zoo animals. The keepers
and teaching staff for summer school did an
excellent job – as they always do – enriching
children’s lives with education animals in the
classroom, and your zoo animals on
the grounds.
Scholarship Program
The Friends of the Zoo Scholarship was
split amongst three research projects for the
University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary
Medicine Students this year! Allison Gutwillig,
Christine Molter and Lauren Schneider were
recipients of this year’s scholarship. Their
research projects varied from working with
local birds to studying sea turtles off the coast
of North and South Carolina.
