Dear Friends and Colleagues:
The theme of this year’s conference, Transforming Health Care: Driving Policy, could not be more
timely. At all levels in health care organizations, educational institutions and government agencies,
nurses are in key leadership roles…and shaping health policy in profound ways. Our conference
this year – extended to three days to include the new Policy Dialogues - will showcase the
extraordinary work nurses are undertaking to drive policy changes that meet the health care
needs of individuals and populations.
This year’s theme was specifically selected to highlight ways in which nurses are transforming
healthcare, leading change, influencing policy, and ultimately improving the nation’s health.
Through our plenary sessions, and expanded opportunities for dialogue and debate, as well
as our expert panel meetings and social events, we will have opportunities to connect and
communicate. In addition to welcoming our new cohort of Fellows, we will engage in lively
discussions about policy and nursing’s role in shaping it.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to extend thanks for the significant contributions
of the many individuals who helped organize this event, including the Annual Meeting Planning
Committee –led by Judith Baggs, PhD, RN, FAAN, Colleen Goode, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN,
Ruth Kleinpell, PhD, RN, FCCM, FAAN, and Eileen Sullivan-Marx, PhD, RN, FAAN – and the
Academy staff.
I look forward to a very stimulating experience over the next few days, and encourage you to take
advantage of all of the opportunities it offers for connecting with and learning from each other.
Sincerely,
Joanne disch, PhD, RN, FAAN
