Modular and energy-saving
“Even though electro-mechanics and drives are normally
looked upon as being a mature industry - Paolo Colombo

an important issue. This is why we foresee a great future for
high energy-efficiency technology applied to both asynchronous
motors, with the Premium IE3 range of motors,
and the brushless motors, represented by the Movigear, a real
point of excellence in the integration of efficient components,
capable of obtaining IE4 classification”. In the field
of system decentralisation, mention must be made of the
extension of the SEW range with addition of the Movipro,
an inverter with a range of up to 30 kW, capable of integrating
functions of a communication, multi-axis control
and energy-regeneration nature in the various versions.
On the technological front, Mr. Berselli said: “Since the
1990s, Varvel’s design process has been focused on the
search for modularity in common elements found in the
various product ranges, both existing and new. This design
effort has led to production synergies, so stepping up productivity,
efficiency and, as a result, energy-saving in the
new products that have benefitted from the distribution
concerns that Varvel has set up in more than sixty-five countries
around the world”.
Bonfiglioli has developed a number of systems in synergy
with user-requirements. These days, automation is of fundamental
importance in any production system. “We are
seeing more and more that the needs of our automation
customers are extremely clear: greater attention to the efficient
use of energy, in all its forms; a growing interest in
turnkey solutions, which are a combination of the various
series in the Bonfiglioli range, resulting in systems with
higher added value; products that are easy to use, all of
which have always characterised what we have to offer” -
pointed out Mr. Tondelli.
Just to let you know: SKF does not deal directly with the
production of gear reducers and gearmotors, but it is operative
within the industry through its re-engineering and revision
work. “With this in mind – explained Mr. Zanella-,
our main aim is optimisation in line with the actual crucial
operational parameters of the machinery; we focus on the
processing factors so as to be able to understand what the
crucial elements of the machinery are and make the most
appropriate improvements based on the production requirements
of a given plant, also on a component level”.
The mechanics industry is constantly evolving, albeit slowly.

PAOLO TONDELLI,
44 years old, graduated from the Milan
Polytechnic in electronic engineering. He has been
working for Bonfiglioli for six years, first as a
Product Manager, the as the Product Innovation
and Portfolio Planning Manager. He has done
lots of innovative research, applying consolidated
techniques for the systematic generation of ideas
and problem-solving (QFD, Triz).
MASSIMILIANO COLOMBO
is the first Marketing Manager from outside the
family in the history of the Brevini company: the
marketing was previously done by the sales
department. After graduating in Economic
History at the University of Bologna, he worked
for five years in the family business (textile
industry). Training of an entrepreneurial nature
was the departure point for various experiences
working for a number of multinational companies: from ceramics to electromechanics,
at leading international companies such as Kone which had its
operational base in Milan. Having worked for Kone for eight years in Finland
and Italy, he then joined Brevini Power Transmission in 2000.
PAOLO COLOMBO
Working for SEW-Eurodrive since February
2008, the engineer is the manager of the ‘End
User’ sector. He supports the in-house
organisation at SEW and is directly involved
with the customers when it comes to matters of a
technical and commercial nature linked to the
world of the ‘end user’, from products and
solutions for saving energy to SEW services
for system management and upkeep.
VITTORIO ZANELLA,
Service Division Engineering Manager at SKF
Industrie. He joined SKF Industrie in April
2004. From 2004 to 2006 he was the
Application & Business Engineer for the iron and
steel, marine and machine tool industries. From
2007 to 2008 he was the group leader for the
iron and steel, marine, machine tool, heavy duty
industrial applications, gear reducers, electric
motors, transportation systems and industrial automation industries. From 2008
to 2010 he was the Application Engineering Manager for SKF’s Service Division
and since 2010 has been the Engineering Manager for SKF’s Service Division in
Italy. He is responsible for application engineering and is the engineering
development manager for the teams dedicated to the Driveline (industrial gear
reducers and special joints) and continuous casting machinery projects.
FRANCESCO BERSELLI
graduated in Economy and Commerce. He is the
son of Cesare Berselli, the founder of the company
(1955). In the late 1960s, at the tender age of
25, he joined the family business, holding a
number of different positions before becoming the
Sole Administrator and then the President of the
Board of Directors. Having first worked
alongside his father, he then took over complete
control of the administration and financial side of things. He was also
responsible for developing the company’s computer system, penetrating foreign
markets and, the product development process.
