<strong>Alpha</strong> <strong>Chi</strong> Mission<br />
<strong>Alpha</strong> <strong>Chi</strong> National College Honor Scholarship Society’s mission is to recognize and promote academic excellence<br />
among college and university students, and by encouraging a spirit <strong>of</strong> service and leadership, to nurture those elements <strong>of</strong><br />
character that make scholarship effective for good.<br />
Vision<br />
In pursuit <strong>of</strong> this mission, <strong>Alpha</strong> <strong>Chi</strong> National College Honor Scholarship Society will<br />
• induct no more than the top 10% <strong>of</strong> juniors, seniors, and graduate students in all fields <strong>of</strong> study from regionallyaccredited<br />
universities and colleges;<br />
• recognize and reward undergraduate and graduate students who make scholarly presentations at conventions;<br />
• provide opportunities for students to disseminate their scholarly works through presentations and publications;<br />
• provide member and sponsor leadership opportunities; and<br />
• encourage service opportunities at the local and national levels.<br />
Priority Implementations<br />
Strategic Goal 1: Constitution and Bylaws<br />
Align the Constitution and Bylaws with changes in mission and vision proposed in this strategic plan.<br />
Objective 1.1: Amend the <strong>Alpha</strong> <strong>Chi</strong> Constitution and Bylaws to reflect the new mission and vision.<br />
Strategic Goal 2: Conventions<br />
Determine the structure <strong>of</strong> the annual national convention.<br />
Objective 2.1: Consider the implications <strong>of</strong> an annual national convention on our historical biennial national<br />
convention format.<br />
Strategic Goal 3: Organizational Structure<br />
Make decisions on local, regional, and national organizational structure.<br />
Objective 3.1: Determine if the current local, regional, national organizational structure is the best one for <strong>Alpha</strong><br />
<strong>Chi</strong>’s future.<br />
Initiative 3.1a: Appoint an advisory committee consisting <strong>of</strong> the seven regional presidents and two student<br />
representatives to review the ongoing role <strong>of</strong> the regional structure and establish a plan <strong>of</strong> implementation should the<br />
committee recommend changes.<br />
Objective 3.2: Consider changes in tenure <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fice for regional student representatives.<br />
Executive Director / Staff Implementation<br />
Strategic Goal 4: Chapters<br />
Recruit new chapters, reactivate weak and dormant chapters, and improve the organization and leadership <strong>of</strong> all chapters,<br />
new and long-standing.<br />
Objective 4.1: Create a plan and implement new standards/criteria to guide the National Council in determining<br />
whether or not an institution is eligible for <strong>Alpha</strong> <strong>Chi</strong> affiliation.<br />
Objective 4.2: Devise a systematic, well-developed plan to recruit institutions that meet the criteria.<br />
Initiative 4.2a: Identify and invite to a given year’s convention a potentially interested individual (i.e., the<br />
provost, the academic dean, the dean <strong>of</strong> the honors college) at each non-<strong>Alpha</strong> <strong>Chi</strong> regionally accredited institution within<br />
a 100-mile radius.<br />
Initiative 4.2b: Subsidize the convention attendance <strong>of</strong> a chapter’s sponsor for chapters installed since the<br />
previous year’s convention.<br />
