Nicky Cullum has held posts at the Universities <strong>of</strong> Liverpool and <strong>of</strong> York (where she founded<br />
the Centre for Evidence Based <strong>Nursing</strong> in 1996) and is currently a Pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> at the<br />
University <strong>of</strong> Manchester.<br />
Dr. Cullum gained postdoctoral research experience at the University <strong>of</strong> Surrey in the <strong>Nursing</strong><br />
Practice Research Unit where she studied chronic wounds. Her particular interest is developing<br />
the evidence base for the prevention and treatment <strong>of</strong> wounds; particularly pressure ulcers,<br />
leg ulcers and surgical wounds on which she undertakes epidemiological studies, randomized<br />
controlled trials, evidence syntheses and qualitative research.<br />
Dr. Cullum was trained as a nurse in Liverpool, UK and was awarded a PhD in pharmacology<br />
from the University <strong>of</strong> Liverpool in 1989 for her study <strong>of</strong> the neurochemistry <strong>of</strong> diabetes. She<br />
is also a founding member <strong>of</strong> the Cochrane Collaboration and has led the Cochrane Wounds<br />
Group since 1995.<br />

Ian Norman is the Deputy Head <strong>of</strong> the Florence Nightingale School <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> and Midwifery at<br />
King’s College London, UK and the Editor-in-Chief <strong>of</strong> the International Journal <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> Studies,<br />
one <strong>of</strong> the highest impact academic nursing journals in the world. He is a qualified mental health<br />
nurse, general nurse and learning disability nurse and social worker and holds an honorary<br />
appointment as a Cognitive Behavioural Nurse Psychotherapist at the Maudsley Hospital, London<br />
UK where he works with patients suffering from complex mental health problems.<br />
Dr. Norman’s research programme is concerned primarily with the study <strong>of</strong> workforce related<br />
and education and training initiatives for improving the delivery <strong>of</strong> health and social care and<br />
the outcome <strong>of</strong> these initiatives for patients, staff, and services and also the development and<br />
evaluation <strong>of</strong> psychological interventions to support people with mental health problems. His<br />
research has led to publication <strong>of</strong> many research papers and he has written/edited several books.<br />
Amongst his edited books is The Art and Science <strong>of</strong> Mental Health <strong>Nursing</strong>, now in its 3rd edition,<br />
is a standard text for mental health nurse education in the UK and is well known <strong>international</strong>ly.<br />
Dr. Norman was awarded a <strong>Fellows</strong>hip <strong>of</strong> the UK Royal College <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> in 2009, in<br />
recognition <strong>of</strong> his contribution to the development <strong>of</strong> mental health nursing and to nursing<br />
scholarship. He is also a Fellow <strong>of</strong> the European <strong>Academy</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> Science.
